-steamed/roasted carrots, yams, broccoli, pan fried zucchini
-strawberries cut into big chunks (halves), squished blueberries, orange smiles with the skin still on, raspberries
-kamut puffs, toast cut into strips with PB/hummus
-pasta with butter
-grated cheddar cheese

Good ideas, thanks everyone! I'm so nervous about her choking, but she seems to do okay. I will try to incorporate some of these ideas!

My daughter is not quite 8 months, and we've been venturing into the world of table food. My kiddo loves food, has a decent pincer grip, and is all about feeding herself, so we're just going with it.

We do a lot of avocado, broccoli, carrots, sweet potatoes, tortellini, rotini, and spaghetti, black beans, grated cheddar and mozzarella, strawberries, watermelon, pineapple, baked cod, and shredded chicken. She does best with small, bite sized, extra soft pieces. I try to give her what we're eating within reason, but some meals are better for this. I try to always have some steamed veggies, grated cheese, and tortellini ready to go to supplement whatever we're eating.

I used to make a cheese omelette, let it cool down, and cut it into pieces.

My son loved blueberries, raspberries, steamed stalks of asparagus, corn wheels (corn on the cob cut into 1-inch sections), watermelon, figs, little pinches of sticky rice, steamed stalks of broccoli, and bites of banana. By 11 months, we gave him boxed mac n' cheese, bites of meatballs or chicken apple sausage (casings removed), grape halves, black olive slices soaked overnight in water to remove the salt content, bites of scrambled egg, and french fries or sweet potato fries.

My DD loves sweet potato at that age--either cubed and really soft, or even just mashed in a bowl. She'd dig in and just take it to the face! :P

Also, the noodles from chicken noodle soup are super duper soft.

Watermelon is awesome too! DS is 8.5 mo, and he also likes shoveling cottage cheese into his mouth (messy though), strawberries, and salmon/tilapia.

Our pediatrician told us that if we can smash it between our thumb and forefinger, then baby can eat it. Their gums are pretty hard because the teeth are so close to the surface.

At that age his favorite was steamed beets! I would just cut them into bite size pieces. Also beets, string cheese (cut up), toast with hummus (he didn't like the flatbread).

Any recommendations of table foods for a 9 month old? I've looked at some of the awesome BLW lists people have posted, but I'm having a hard time figuring out which food hit the sweet spot of a) her being able to feed herself and b) soft enough to be gummed down.

She has 7 teeth and a pretty good pincer grasp, and will feed herself well-steamed broccoli and puffs. She will also hold big chunks of plum, banana, or avocado and gnaw at them. We tried ground chicken and she loved putting it in her mouth but wouldn't/couldn't swallow it.

Any other suggestions? Did bigger or littler pieces work best for your LO at this age?
