Thanks guys. I gave her a big piece of apple today to see what she'd do. At first she seemed to not like getting her hand dirty but the n gnawed on it a bit. Tomorrow I think I'll try some banana or really soft carrot pieces.

I think i would concentrate on the foods being really soft rather than the size.

I usually give pea-sized pieces. But it depends on the food. I will give huge chunks of tofu because it dissolves pretty quickly in her mouth, and i will give her big strips of pear when it is super ripe. Everything else is small but big enough for her to pick up.

Foods he can bite easily we give big pieces (toast with spread cut into 4 strips, for example).
Foods he cannot bite easily (for example, some meats) we give him bits no bigger than a chickpea.

When I first started giving real solids, I actually gave her big pieces of food (like, my finger-sized) so that she could grab hold of it and gnaw on it until she really understood what the food was for. Now that she feeds herself, I give her Cheerio-sized pieces of food, sometimes bigger, depending on if it breaks down easily.

LO is 7 months and has been eating purées like a champ for the past two months. I'm interested in trying some finger foods/self feeding with some cooked veggies but I'm kinda paranoid about choking. Everyone says to cut the pieces small but just how small are we talking? I feel like anything is choke-able. How small do you chop your finger foods?
