Thanks ladies! I guess we will just wait it out. :) He does take a paci when he is falling asleep but it's like sucking his fingers is his favorite (only?) form of entertainment while awake! Ha.

Totally normal! It will eventually develop into putting everything he can grab into his mouth. My 6 month old still loves sucking on her hands, but will also use a teether or toy or paci or blanket or just about anything. It's gross but normal. I do a lot of rinsing her hands and wiping her face through out the day.

Yeah, my 4.5 month old has had his fingers in his mouth constantly since he found them. He will also take Sophie or a teething ring to chew on now too.

Normal! Both my kids did it (and dd still does at 4 month). Not teething, just a mix of salivary glands kicking in and developmental phase of discovering their hands!

T uses her middle and ring finger of her left hand to self soothe. Now she only does it when she's tired or upset.

DD chews on her fingers all the time. It drives me crazy because of the amount of slobber. I just bought her a munch mitt this week and she really likes it. I thought she'd probably chew her other hand, but so far she hasn't.

DS (12 weeks) has found his fingers. Except now they are in his mouth literally anytime he is not eating or sleeping. Only the fingers of his left hand. I have tried offering him toys and pacis but he's not having it.

Is this normal?? It seems rather unhygienic ... but I don't know what really to do about it! Is it a phase? He's not teething yet, right?
