@sandy: Thanks! Yes, I am finally relieved to know something! I try to keep things light and make light of the situation just to make sure it doesn't drag me down.

@mrsloving: so glad your doc was able to identify these issues for you. Even though it's scary facing surgery I'm sure a huge part of you is relieved to get it addressed and move forward. Wishing you the best and definitely keep us posted on how you're doing.

@mrsloving: That is so scary! I'm glad the doctor figured it out though, and I really hope things go smoothly with the surgery, etc.

UPDATE - Talked to the doctor on Friday and he did an ultrasound. Come to find out I have unknown mass in my uterus along with cyst on the outside of my uterus and a 2 inch diameter cyst on my right ovary. For now, I have blood work scheduled, then a saline test then I will be scheduled for surgery to have them removed. Explains why I can't get pregnant because due to the mass in my uterus.

She took our health history and did an ultrasound. Tests were scheduled. She may have sent me out with info sheets.

For me, the discussion about treatment, etc. came when we sat down to discuss all the test results and make a plan. The tests have to be done on certain days of your cycle, so you might be spending the next month just lining those things up.

@mrsloving: Good luck on Friday! My first appointment was like many of the others' here. Just lots of talking and information, then scheduling a few more tests. My advice would be to write down all of the questions you have before your appointment. It's easy to go into information overload and forget to address some of your concerns.

My first meeting with an RE was last month. She basically went over our family history, my specific cycle history for the past 15 months and then she surprised me with an ultrasound if I wanted to see how my follicles were. By the time I saw the RE, I already had countless blood work, U/S, HSG so she pretty much just said it was unexplained and there was nothing to really fix, so we'd just take it one cycle at a time with trying different things.

@mrsloving: Oh, and, I called in advance to ask if there would be a physical exam. I like to be prepared. There wasn't. But, you might want to ask if you want to prepare.

@mrsloving: My first appointment was last week. It was about an hour meeting with the doctor. He gave me LOTS of information and we talked about possible reasons for our infertility. I asked lots of questions and he ran a blood test. It was really easy and informative. Nothing to worry about. :)

Same as @Shutterbug: and @swedishfish: we talked about our history. He ordered a bunch of tests (cd 3 and 21 blood work and an HSG). Talked a bit about possibilities and what the plan would be once we completed the tests.

We went over my medical history and DH's medical history. We discussed possible treatment paths. I received prescriptions for blood work and then I had a physical exam. The RE suspected PCOS and was surprised that I didn't have the telltale string of pearls on my ovaries. Good luck!

@mrsloving: good luck! I know every doctor is different, but at my initial consultation we just went over my history and DH's, talked about what he suspected, and he ordered a bunch more tests (blood tests, SA and HSG). Then after all the tests were done we had another appointment with him and went over our treatment options. I didn't have a physical exam during that first meeting, but I know others here did.

On Friday I will have my first appointment with a fertility specialist. I'm just uneasy as what to expect the first time. Anyone have any advice or insight as to what may happen?
