I also wanted to day that in business trips FaceTime does not go over well with my LO. Just be prepared that it might be the case after a couple of days.

Maybe have special gift(s) for him when you are gone? I've read about this but not what age children it works on!

@2PeasinaPod: We have FaceTimed occasionally while I was at work, and he seemed ok with it. Sometimes he bursts into a big grin when he sees me. He also has a photo album that my dad made him that is full of his baby photos and also other members of our family. He LOVES to sit and flip through the photos and name all the people he knows. So I *think* that will be ok but I will keep an open mind.

The best you can do right now is probably just letting him know. I'm sure that he will be fine (it's always harder on us than it is them), but also wanted to warn you that if Facetiming doesn't go well the first night, you might want to nix it for the others. At that age, LO used to get upset if he could see me on the screen but couldn't touch me.

For your sake, having DH or your parents send you pictures certainly helps!

My son will be 14mo tomorrow. In a week and a half, I am going on a 4-day / 3-night business trip. The only other time I have been away from him overnight was when he slept over at his grandparents' house for one night right after his first birthday.

I think he is going to spend the first of my three nights away with his grandparents again, and then he will be home with his dad and his nanny for the other two nights. He knows my parents really well because they watch him two afternoons per week.

I have tried to tell him a couple of times that I am going to go away to get him used to the idea in advance, but it's impossible to know how much he can understand.

Is there anything else I should do to help prepare him? I assume he will be fine, but I still feel weird about it. My husband told me that when I get home from work later than usual, he always looks at the entrance to our apartment and says "mama". I will also try to FaceTime with him while I'm gone.
