Around here there's usually at least a couple that come up in the spring. Also, do you have a Stride Rite outlet? They usually have a clearance section and the one by me always has tons of girls shoes. I got a pair of early walker shoes for DS that were $12 (normally $40). At the regular Stride Rite I got a sale pair for $24. </p> <p>I hate to spend $40+ on shoes too. And I love to just be able to find something online and order it and call it a day. She explained the toe-curling issue and agreed that he needed the extra wide (not even just plain wide) size to fit his chubby little feet. There were only two models that we were able to get on his feet, and then he struggled to walk in them the first few times we put them on.</p> <p>I share your sentiment about shopping. I avoid it like the plague. I find their shoes run slightly small (Stride rite - 5 Target dress shoes - 4) I noticed a huge boost in walking confidence when we put LO in her first pair of Stride Rite shoes, plus I was totally buying shoes that were way too small for her feet and not giving her the space to grow. I think it is very important to get properly measured for first shoes and even for the first few years. We have always done Clarks for early shoes because their staff measures best around here. We also use a local shop when their feet are a little bigger for the same reason. My SIL always had her kids in ill fitting shoes and their feet were so messed up from their shoes either being too big or too small.</p> <p>Also the lady at Clarks said it is better when the kids have smaller feet and have to wear the pre-walker shoes longer even when they walk well (like in my DD's case) then when you have a young baby with big feet and are forced to learn to walk in hard soles. He was totally fine at the playground with the soft soled shoes. I found some cheap ones one sale at target that were similar. My LO is 20 months now and she still wears two pair of ministars.</p> <p>They have the sueded bottom, so they are non-skid, BUT they aren't good for wet surfaces (like if it's rained outside). At this age, it's crucial they wear shoes that are supportive, but have a flexible sole for their developing feet (like stride rite first walkers or SKR "smaller"). In my experience, at least, once my little guy really got the walking down, he wanted to walk everywhere! Whether we were at the grocery store, at the coffee shop... or if we were just hanging out at home he'd want to go outside and go for a walk or explore! He wears them every single time we leave the house because I wouldn't want his feet unprotected when he's out! Stride Rite sells in half sizes so we've always purchased a half size up and have gotten probably ~4-6 mo use out of them... I found a pair of stride rite on sale on zulily. She measured a 3.5 and I sized up to 4. I read at this age (13 mos) they will Prob need new shoes 2x/yr, which isn't horrible for something they will wear every day! </p>
