None of the rules mentioned would be enough for my big eater! If we bottle instead of breastfeed (I bottle instead of breastfeed if I am out at a group thing with him - like birthday parties etc) he will take 5 ounces, so for 6 hours I would need to leave 2 5 ounce bottles. I have only given him bottles a few times since we have been breastfeeding, but both times he did the same volume.

@brownie: Yeah, I have a Medela PiS, so I think I'll bring it along... prob won't pump at my seat during the concert, but I'll go somewhere away from the action.

@HabesBabe: Take a nursing cover, put batteries in your pump (most pumps have this) and just do it during the performance under the cover.

@Mrs. Bee: dammit, that's what i thought... we're going to the Hollywood Bowl when the baby is about 8 weeks old, so I have no idea where I'm going to pump. We usually do park and ride (at Hollywood & Highland), so I guess I'll have to pump there before the concert...

@HabesBabe: i went to a wedding when olive was 3 weeks old, and i took my double electric pump with me! i let the bride know ahead of time so i could use the bridal suite to pump.

now that olive is older i'm fine going longer stretches without pumping, but in the early weeks you get so engorged, i had to take my pump with me.

Will you need to pump at all while you're out? My friends and I usually go to this concert every summer and I have a feeling I'll need to actually pump while I'm away because it'll be for several hours.

@Mrs. Bee: I do the same, nurse right before I leave and I usually leave 6oz frozen, and also maybe 3-4oz thawed in a bottle. But he's never gone through that much in a night. You just never know! sometimes he does comfort nurse for an hour, although generally he drinks 4-5oz in one feeding (but he's older than Sienna).
I think as long as you have the milk frozen too you should be fine! It doesn't take THAT long to thaw milk

Not sure how old little Sienna is but I know on kellymom she talks about "how much expressed milk do I need". From the info on the site baby's age 1-6 months intake ~25 oz a day so you can divide that by the number of feedings she gets a day to find about what she eats in a feeding & then leave the amount she'd need for the number of feedings she'd normally have I'm that time period.

That's what I did when Penelope stayed the night with my mom & had more than plenty.

i leave olive for 5 hours at a time max. i usually nurse her before i leave, so she only needs one bottle while i'm gone and i nurse her as soon as i get back.

she doesn't drink much while i'm gone (3 oz at the most), and that's ok since i'm not gone too long.

if you nurse right before you leave, 2 bottles should be enough. if it's freshly pumped milk, your mom can keep it at room temp so that it's ready to go instead of having to heat it. also if olive doesn't finish a bottle, i just have them try to give it to her in an hour or so so that it doesn't go to waste!

La leche says 1 to 1 1/2 oz per hour you are gone. I would put small amounts in separate bottles since she isn't a big bottle drinker so it won't go to waste.

i would leave two bottles of 4 oz each. she's not used to the bottle so she probably wouldn't drink much more than that in one feeding, esp since she's so young?

Tonight, is the first time we will have a date night sans kids. That also means it's the first time my mom will take care of both Mavrick and Sienna. I'm excited because we are going to a VIP Cirque du Soleil event and we are seeing their brand new show AMALUNA, but at the same time... I'm scared for my mom. haha.

She's had 4 girls so I know she will be okay, but Sienna is a drinker, and only took 1 bottle when she was a few days old... so hopefully she will take the bottle no problem.

Now my question is this, how much milk should I give my mom? If we are gone 6 hours about. Generally Sienna is out from 8 til 11 or midnight, but I want to make sure I give my mom enough pumped breastmilk in case she decides not to sleep.

I have no clue how she drinks... all i know is she drinks lots. I'm usually able to pump 3-4 oz per breast if they are full (not engorged)

Help?
