@2PeasinaPod: that's great! It's totally normal for kids to eat/sleep less, and on day 1 that's a great report! They should be fine with you calling, especially in the beginning..just don't get too worried if you can't get in touch sometimes. Sounds like they are good with communicating with you and that would be a big plus IMO. Hope YOU are hanging in there! <3

@googly-eyes: Thank you!

I just called again (I'm such a paranoid mom) and got a much better report! They said that he ate all of his lunch and did well with that. They also said that he took about a half hour to go down for his nap, but didn't fuss at all...was just distracted. They said he fell asleep holding his teacher's thumb :heart: He's been sleeping for a little over an hour now thank goodness.

Thank you ladies. You make a worried mom feel better about the first day!

He will probably have fun after the goodbyes, and maybe a rough week!

When I leave dd with another caretaker I dpnt sneak out though... I know transitions are hard! He will learn that mommy always comes back and even if he cries his teachers will be able to console and distract him and he will be fine! :)

@Mamaof2: Good idea. My husband does pick-up, and I will always be drop off...but I like the idea of him knowing that I will always be back. I did give him a hug and a kiss, and then the teacher took him to play with the ball while I left. I'll try to make it so that he sees me leaving. I just know he'll cry which will definitely make it harder on me!

HE will be ok - you? Not so much! haha

Teachers always tell me its way harder for the parents then for the kids!

I would suggest NOT sneaking out though - he needs to understand that you are leaving but will come back. Tell him this everyday and start a routine. My 5yr old gets a kiss on the head but my 2.5 yr old likes to get a hug and a kiss, then one more hug =) Just be consistent at every drop off =)

Fingers crossed that he has a great 1st day!

Today is S's first day in a child care center. He's been watched by a combination of people, but my BFF is pregnant and due early next year. I wanted to get him started and adjusted before she had her baby so that she could enjoy the last trimester of her pregnancy.

He's only going 2 days/week and today is his first day. He's 13 months and was great while I was there! He was walking around and checking out all of the new stuff. One of the teachers picked him up and distracted him while I snuck out, but I'm just worried about how he'll nap today. He's in a pre-toddler room on a mat, and he's only ever slept in a crib or pack n play...so just nervous! Tell me he's going to be ok :happy:
