My kids are 28 months and 9 weeks and it's gotten so much better. I think life with a baby has become so routine that M doesn't really remember that he hasn't always been here. She still gets frustrated if I'm nursing him and can't help her with something, etc - but she doesn't seem emotional about it anymore. She's not jealous, just annoyed that I've inconvenienced her - if that makes sense. She had a really hard time at the beginning, but it really has gotten better every week. Is there any way that your Mom or someone could watch the baby for an hour so you could do something fun with your older DD? I've taken M to story time at the library a few times and she's so happy to have the trip with just mom and I can still get home in time to nurse the baby. Even a special "big girls" activity at home might be fun for her.

That being said - taking care of two young kids is no joke. I've tried to give myself a break and remember that we're still in survival mode. Extra TV, special snacks and wearing PJs during the day aren't the end of the world. Take all the help you are offered!

Aw I'm sorry today was rough!
It does get better! Does DD 1 have a baby doll of her own to feed? I found in the early days mine really liked that. Or perhaps putting together an art bin that only comes out out during nursing?

And yeah.... Lots of screen time during nursing here.

My best advice is Daniel Tiger.

It does get better, especially as you get your strength back. Can your mom come over more? I did one day with two by myself when DS was 8 days old. Then I had my MIL come for a week!

I have a 21 month old and a 5 week old. The first week or so we were super lax with screentime and I kept giving lo#1 new toys (this was befor Christmas) so he wouldn't be jealous of his new sister! It's gets better once they realize the new baby isn't leaving!

No tips here, but lots of empathy and encouragement. I'm due with #2 in 6 weeks and will have a 2.5 year old. I'm dreading when DH goes back to work!

I'm sorry 2 against 1 is tough while you still need to rest and recover. I relaxed rules a little - extra video is fine, had little toy come in the mail, pasta with butter and tomato sauce for dinner. Pee pee diapers are for lo1 to help get a wipe. And tears happen, the kids won't be scarred. Hopefully it gets easier each week is everyone adjusts. Best wishes!

So today was DH's first day back at work and my first day stay at home parenting my 2 year old and week old. The morning started smoothly but everything fell apart when DD1 erupted into an epic tantrum (snot, kicking, screaming, out of control) when I went to nurse DD2. It was so bad I was fearful in her state she would hurt the baby accidentally trying to get to me (she wanted me to put the baby in her room and "hold her" but any attempts to do so she was unhappy with and escalated. She was inconsolable screaming for over an hour and it broke my heart. My mom was able to come over and is helping with bath and dinner while I nurse and attend to the newborn DD2. I know it's my crazy post partum hormones and it's only the first day but I'm feeling really discouraged. Any encouragement, tips for taking care of two and your experiences getting through these first few weeks would be appreciated :-/
