Hope he is feeling better! A's was 103 on Christmas Eve, we fought it down and never had to go to the ER. Motrin worked much better for her.

I hope the fever is down now and your LO is feeling better. I agree with that post that @SugarplumsMom linked to, that was helpful to me in the past. Also, one thing no one mentioned but that the hospital immediately told me and every other parent bringing in feverish babies when I had to go to the ER with my 3 month old - undress your baby! Keep LO in his diaper and maybe a onesie until the fever comes down.

My LO is younger but when he had a fever the MD was more concerned with how he acted vs. how high the number is. If he is eating / drinking it is less concerning than if he isn't. Poor sick babies for the new year, feel better soon!

I would wait also. If spikes to 104, take in. If you're still not sure, call pedi. :-)

@locavore_mama: Yes I agree, I think its 6-8 hours between doses of the same kind of medicine but alternating types is every 4 hours.

So you could do:

Noon - Tylenol
4pm - Advil
8pm - Tylenol again because its been 8 hours since first dose.

@T.H.O.U.: ooh I just Reread her post. I thought she meant if she's old enough to take advil and Tylenol. Not both at the same time.

You're suppose to wait 4hrs after ibuprofen then acetaminophen. I think.

Lo's spike nasty fevers - both our ped and the on-call ped have said not to worry unless its over 104 and won't respond to meds. We alternate Tylenol and Motrin (every 2 hours), for very bad ones. Hope your LO feels better!!

I didn't think you could give advil on top of tylenol. I was told to still stagger them some.

Yes he's old enough for both. I wouldn't bring him to urgent care in less it goes above 103 and doesn't respond to medication. How is he feeling this morning.

Honestly at 12m I doubt the Dr will even need to see him at this moment.

I would wait, as long as the fever responds to medication. If you've already given something, I would wait until he needs a new dose to give something else (I wouldn't double dose). hope he feels better!

Fevers can be scary, but I think you can wait until morning. DS has had high fevers like that before and the Dr has never been urgently concerned about it. Our Dr also said we can give both tylenol & ibuprofen, just to make sure you get each dosed correctly with timing. I hope he feels better soon!

B has his first fever at 12mo. 102.8 re tally. Just gave Advil? Can I give Tylenol now too? Should we take him to urgent care or wait until AM for pediatrician?
