Stickers, coloring books and crayons, little things/toys that can be counted and sorted, small books, iPad. If you wear her through security, prepare to be screened. Hopefully they will put you into the TSA pre-check line as they sometimes do with families. Nurse/pacifier at takeoff for her ears. Try to relax; I feel like toddlers can really pick up on your mood and react to it. Flying with a LO doesn't have to be terrible; it can go smoothly and be easy; good luck!

Will she sleep on you? It helped us to plan our flights around LO's nap time. He slept for part of the flight. Other than that, I'd definitely nurse during take off & landing, have lots of snacks, books, and small toys. Also, baby wear through security.

I'm not going to lie, it is no fun to fly with a toddler.

The good news is that there is so much going on around them and most people love kids, you'll be fine!

It's really just about being organized and remembering that you only have two hands, so don't bring on so much stuff that you can't manage it.

Best tip I have read was to bring painters tape to play with - easy removable stickers!

Lots of good ideas! We're flying Southwest, hopefully there will be extra seats so we can use the car seat.

@birdofafeather: agree about air sickness preparedness! Once when we flew Europe-US DS threw up all over me. Luckily I had an extra tee shirt for myself, and extra clothes for him, but I still smelled like puke because it got on my jeans and when he puked on me a second time, I had nothing left to change into! Gah!

Agree about food, screen time, a new book, a quiet toy, we've had good luck with sticker books too. As for security, just be organized. Put all the liquids in one big plastic bag. I've been able to get away with fruit pouches with no problem. I've also taken empty water bottles and then filled them after passing through security. I know you BF too, definitely offer or let her comfort nurse whenever she wants on the plane.

I posted something similar and people said bring flap books. My LO will be 15 months when we fly this Fall. I'm thinking of getting this:
http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Little-People-Lift-Flap/dp/0794422764/ref=pd_sim_b_5?ie=UTF8&refRID=16HJ3P9V8NTMQV7A52PZ

Last time we flew I set up a ziplock bag of basic diaper change stuff to keep in my carry on. It was super easy to just grab and run the the bathroom when needed.

@birdofafeather: Agree, bring clothes for LO and at least an extra shirt for you and DH too!

Tip for all the new little toys- wrap them up so they will hold LOs attention for just a few minutes longer.

Be prepared for air sickness. It was the only thing I wasn't expecting. On the way home, we had changes of clothes available, wipes and a plastic bib to catch vomit. We used them all.

Our daughter loves looking out the window of the airplane and learning all about air travel. We have fun looking at planes taking off when we're at the airport. We talk about what happens in the security line. The hardest part is being on the plane b/c you're stuck in your seat for a long time. TV shows, coloring, and books help to pass the time. Also snacks... lots of snacks.

FOOD. We just keep shoving food into LO's mouth every time he gets antsy. Blueberries, string cheese, mum mums, etc. (mum mums especially since he usually doesn't get snack-y type foods like that). Agreed with new toys. And books. And pacing up and down the plane. You can also bring your car seat and if there flight isn't fully booked, they'll let you bring it on. My LO will only sleep in his car seat so that's been a godsend. Good luck! It was really easy to travel with an infant but a toddler is a whole different story.

So, we're seasoned travelers, but we've been stationary since LO's birth. I know nothing about traveling with children. :P We've just booked our first trip, out to Portland for SIL's wedding, and I'm starting to think about the flight. Aside from screentime, how do you entertain your toddler when you travel? Any tips for getting through security, etc?

Give me your best tips, everyone!
