I feel like both boys were great eaters when they were younger but I have one great eater and one awful one. DS1 will basically eat whatever you give him or at least you can get him to try a bite. Except for spaghetti for some reason. Hates meat sauce on his noodles. DS2 on the other hand is the WORST and is payback as both DH and I were picky eaters growing up. He will eat no veggies and only 4 fruits. He will not try anything new and cannot be "forced" or bribed. I just hope that he'll get better as he grows up but have decided not to stress as it's not worth it.

My first two were baby led weaned and both were great eaters exposed to a ton of different flavors, textures, cuisines. And both have became picky in their own ways. My oldest now at almost 6 is much better about eating; but she is picky and prefers carbs. My middle at almost 4, she eats way more variety than her sister, BUT she is in the distracted phase so it's just hard to get her to sit & eat and currently just wants snacks all day long.

Baby #3 has been on solids for 2 months now; I am just doing the same things, knowing that they are all their own persons and be different!

I don't really know how to answer this lol with DD1, she ate a good variety of foods, but has always had a texture issue. My dh is the same way. Now, at 4, she's just like him in her eating habits. She'll love something for a couple of months and then hate it and refuse to eat it anymore. She has to be in the mood for the food item in order to eat good. She used to eat mashed potatoes but hasn't touched them in 2 years. She ate purees better than anything. I'm hopeful DD2 will be better, closer to my eating habits than her dad's.

@JennyPenny: yep each baby is different. We are definitely game to be led either way by the baby. Plus I am a little afraid of how messy it’s going to get. Ha. I don’t have time to give a bath after every meal.

@Bmaja: So we actually did BLW with our first and he just couldn’t get the hang of it and we ended up switching to purée around 9 months. He did much better after that. But he’s still ended up being a picky eater. My gut is that it’s probably something about him that made BLW and current eating a struggle, and not that BLW caused his pickiness. But we did purées with DS2 and that worked really well so we’re sticking with that for DD.

@JennyPenny: so glad you posted this... we’ve been thinking a lot about starting foods. My first was fed purées at daycare- she’s a pretty good eater, but has problems with textures. She still will eat just about any baby food flavor - we call it a smoothie... I always thought it was good to get the nutrients and the texture thing would fix itself.... it hasn’t. And she’s 6. Now that I’m working from home (with help from my mom), I’m considering doing baby led weaning with #2.. My best friend is a dietician and did it with her last child.

I have three amazing eaters. They love food, they’re not picky, they try new foods- they’re just little foodies.

They were in general ok early eaters. I remember sometimes they wouldn’t take to a certain food but we kept trying it over and over again. For example my daughter started off disliking avocados but we kept giving them to her and eventually she ate it no problem. I can’t remember details but they all had a food or two they didn’t love when they were babies, but grew to love (or at least tolerate).

I had one of each. With dd even when she was drinking bottles we kept having to make them bigger because she’d finish and want more.

With my Ds, he was such a distracted nursing where if he’d pull off you couldn’t get him to start again.

Now at 5 and 3, dd eats basically anything and Ds will just refuse to eat dinner at all if he’s not hungry.

I’m curious if there’s a relationship between how kids take to early feeding and their tendencies as they age. DS1 struggled with the introduction to solids and it took a while before he would eat well. Then he did for a while and was generally unpicky until 3 or so and has been getting increasingly picky over time. DS2 on the other hand took to solids like a champ and still eats anything and everything (except tomatoes 🤷🏼‍♀️). Now my daughter is starting solids and I can’t help but wonder what will happen with her. I’m curious if others saw a similar pattern with their kids. Allowing multiple votes for multiple kids
