I started with fruits, because I was hoping to build a preference for fruits and veggies over carbs for my daughter. And she actually does prefer those, so you know, who knows. I'll do it that way with any other children I have.

our pediatrician recommended starting rice cereal at our four month check up. but after reading up on it more on HB and other resources, I'm reconsidering and leaning towards possibly starting her on purees instead. definitely interested to hear what others are doing too!

we started with carrot puree, sweet potato, and banana. :)

i think if you want to start with rice or oatmeal almost any brand is fine, probably. maybe go for an organic one?

eta: he was on formula and bm, so i didn't worry about iron intake, as the formula had plenty.

Our ped said that if we plan to skip cereal then let her know so we can discuss iron drops at 6 mos appt. I don't want to give supplements to my baby unless absolutely necessary so I plan to feed him lots of sweet potato purée. He seems to like it so far.

We did cereals per our doctor's recommendations. She told us to do rice, barley, oatmeal, mixed grains in that order. We did a combination of gerber and earths best. Now she eats some cereal mixed with fuit and also veggie purees that I make at home.

With my first baby, I did rice cereal as his first food. I wasted a lot of it (and formula) as he didn't care for it. With my second baby (he will be six months old next week), I started him with banana, avocado and apple purees a couple of weeks ago and he's eating like a champ.

We started at 6 months but started with homemade green beans. when we eventually got around to cereal we just bought steel cut oats from the store and ground it into flour at home. I wouldnt recommend rice cereal since it can cause constipation and isnt high in nutrition

At 6 months you can start with veggies and fruits if you'd rather. When LO ate cereal, she ate Earth's Best oatmeal cereal.

Our son is going to be 6 months old tomorrow (sniff, sniff!) and we're planning on starting solids soon. We are thinking that we will start either with rice cereral or oatmeal and I am just not sure which brand is *best*... or what you like!

Someone recommended Plum Organics but it seems like most of their cereals are now discontinued and not available anywhere. I'd love to hear what your LOs are eating.
