Things that could be mashed I only ever mashed but I never wanted to serve runny food to LO. I wanted everything to have some texture. Easy to smash foods, especially sweet potato mash so well. Less dishes as well and you can still do batches.

You can mash and still add water if you want it thin it out.

I didn't puree easy-to-smash stuff, but everything else got steamed and pureed in my baby brezzo. I started him with egg yolk smashed/mixed with breastmilk, then moved on to smashed banana. He didn't really like the banana, though, so we moved on to steamed/pureed sweet potato. If your banana is really ripe, you can smash it down pretty well so there aren't any lumps or chunks, and can pick ou the chunks that do remain.

I steam and then purée. I don't find it time consuming at all. I just make a big batch at once.

Unfortunately LO hates everything, but that's another story.....

We puréed. LO either wanted super smooth or pieces she could feed herself. Chunky purées we're never her thing.

Hi month twin! We just started LO on solids a few days ago. We skipped cereal/oatmeal and went straight to purees. I started her on Gerber Level 1 puree sweet potato. Not sure yet if I'll make my own in the future.

I started with rice cereal, but quickly moved to orange vegetables and oatmeal.

Avocado can be strongly flavored, so I saved that for later.

I pureed just because it was easier than mashing with a fork since I did larger batches and froze it. I'd roast the sweet potato whole, dump half in our magic bullet with a little water and give it a whirl for about 10 seconds, pour into ice cube trays, then do the other half. If I'd done it with a fork... I don't even know how long it would have taken to mash up an entire sweet potato.

Avocado and banana I just mashed with a fork as I was serving it.

I mashed with a fork- I hate doing dishes, so I kept it super minimal. I also never steamed, I microwaved instead and didn't bother with organic because I didn't care that much.

We are probably going to use sweet potato, banana or avocado as LO's first food. (We may do oatmeal too - haven't decided.) Those are all naturally very soft foods that you can mash up to almost liquid with a fork. Is it with the extra step of pureeing? We are not doing BLW & I am not comfortable with LO eating chunky solids at first so bear that in mind.
