My 2.5yo has curly hair that is kind of getting out of control. So far we've only done spot trims at home, first to trim a rat tail in back & then some bangs getting in her eyes. She's due for at least the scraggly bangs trimmed again, but I'm considering a "real" cut.

My DD and I both have 2c/3a curly hair. I gave her a Deva cut at home for the first time when she was 3.5. I think it turned out great. I watched a few YouTube videos before doing it and I was extremely pleased with the results.

@lazb any thoughts? I like your DDs hair.

Ts hair is just wavy at chin length (sometimes I blow dry it straight) but we started slowly cutting off inches at 2. I love her bob with bangs at almost 3. I take her to my stylist she usually just charges $15 so same as a kids cut place and within walking distance.

@krispi: oh yes we had a mullet going on as well. The stylist cut layers so we don't have to wait for the top layer to catch up. DD is almost three and the top layer is still shorter than the bottom (it grows slower) but it looks cute.

@Meowkers: My 2.5 year old's hair is somewhere between your before and after pictures. It's still pretty short on top, but she's got some long stragglers in the back, that we refer to as her mullet. I've been waiting to cut her hair until the top and bangs caught up with the back, but your pictures are making me rethink that approach.

@Foodnerd81: it was a regular kid salon but when I called I asked for someone who has experience with curly hair.

@Meowkers: oh you inspired me. Her hair is getting a little straggly. Was it a regular kids salon or someone who does curls in particular?

My daughter has very curly hair. We did the first cut a month after she turned two. It really did a lot to improve the shape and texture of her hair. The stylist suggested cuts once every 6 months just to clean up the shape.

If your daughter has curly hair, when did you first cut it? Did you go to someone who specializes in curly hair?

My almost 4.5 year old has started asking for a hair cut. Her hair is really curly in the summer and sort of curly in this super dry winter air. It’s still not that long- even brushed out straight it’s not quite mid back, and the front pieces still come out of ponytails and braids. I know we’ve gotten away with no cuts for a long time but I guess I might bring her soon...
