Thank you all for the reassurance.
My appointment went well, I believe. He did a pap and an internal ultrasound. He said that I have 'text book PCOS' and sent me home with more blood work forms. He also prescribed a month of bcp which will hopefully reset my system, then I'll be taking letrozole the next cycle along with folic acid and metformin. Then on CD 22 I'll go in for more blood work and if I'm not pregnant that month I'll repeat for 2 more cycles. If after 3 months I'm not pregnant then we'll switch it up a bit.
DH is getting a SA done too.
The doctor seemed pretty optimistic that this is common and can easily be dealt with, that made us feel pretty good. I'm kind of bummed about the bcp again, but realistically it's only one month so it's not that big of a deal.
Once the holidays are over I'll be able to get my blood work and prescriptions filled.
It feels good knowing that we're moving in the right direction.

My experience was in the US. But after a year of trying at my annual check up I mentioned it to my doctor who said they didn't deal with infertility issues any longer as their office had spun off a fertility clinic for various reasons.

My first appointment was easy and explaining everything that was going to be done. I was told we were actively infertile or something like that. Nothing was done at the appointment other then standard weight, blood pressure, etc. I'm overweight too and the only comment the specialist made was just a simple comment about weighing less makes it's easier to conceive. No more mention of it. Due to do cycle timing, an out of town trip, and bad communication it actually took almost 3 months to get all my blood tests and semen analyst done... and at that point I got my positive test. I actually had an appointment with the specialist the next day (I took my test in the previous evening) and the doc jokingly said sometimes we just have to scare the body into working. Per my request we did go over all the results mostly out of curiosity, and everything looked good.

I hope everything goes smoothly for you!

We also just had our first appt at a fertility clinic. Doctor asked a bunch of questions, our bloods done, an ultrasound, another semen analysis.

At the moment, I'm waiting for my CD 1 so I can go in for a sonohystogram (similar to an HSG without the dye). But I'm due for AF any day now and the clinic is closed for the holidays, so I may have to wait for the next cycle (what a pain!).

Then we'll have a follow up appointment and see how it goes.

My monitored cycle was normal, so they called in unexplained infertility and I moved to medicated IUIs (I skipped Clomid completely but I can't remember why now). Over the course of the next 2 years I did 4 IUIs with two different doctors (my original doctor moved clinics) and then an unsuccessful IVF. Then I switched doctors again, had a lap/hysteroscopy, found out that my AMH was pretty low and I had DOR, got naturally pregnant, had a miscarriage, did 2 more IUIs, had another surgery, did another 2 IUIs, and then IVF which resulted in a son who's almost 2 now. I have faith that your trip won't be as long!

Funny story about semen analysis that I hope you also don't have to repeat - for some reason my clinic didn't do them in-house so they referred my husband to another place that didn't have a "donation room" (for lack of a better word). We lived an hour away and it had to be dropped off within 30 minutes so he had to find a Second Cup with private bathrooms and do his business there. He likes to joke that he actually got the worse end of the stick, infertility-testing wise.

Oh, I suspect they also might have you do an SHG to check that your tubes are clear.

@erinbaderin: Thanks! I would assume they would do a monitored cycle as well. I did get some bloodwork done this week, so hopefully the doctor will have access to it today.
We have the forms for the SA too, but DH said the nearest clinic he could find is in Belleville! So we're going to ask about that too, there has to be a closer place.
It's been a long 9 months, but it's exciting to think it could actually happen in the next few months.
What happened with your testing? If you don't mind me asking.

So at my first meeting with my doctor (Toronto) she went through what they knew so far, ruled out things that didn't make sense, threw out a few possibilities, and talked about the testing she wanted to schedule - I did a bunch of blood tests and a monitored cycle and my husband did a semen analysis. I would think before they'd put you on any meds they'd want to make sure that not ovulating is the problem and do a monitored cycle (which means you go in for bloodwork/ultrasound but don't do any meds or anything - it's just to check where all your hormone levels are, etc).

Good luck, let us know how it goes!

Hi Bees,
I haven't been too active lately since I got the news that I am most likely not ovulating on my own (suspected PCOS) from my family doctor. He referred me to an OB in the area who specializes in infertility and I have my appointment today! I met with my doctor on Dec. 4... so it's moving along pretty fast which I'm happy about.

I am nervous for today though, I'm assuming he will ask a brief history, and tell us (DH and I) what will be happening in the upcoming weeks. My GP mentioned I would most likely be taking femara or clomid, but I'm not entirely sure what to expect.

I'm overweight, and I'm afraid he's going to tell me, 'it's all your fault you can't have a baby, you're overweight and won't get pregnant until you go on a diet'. I know that's irrational, but that's where a lot of my nerves are coming from.

Anywho, sorry for the rambling, but I feel a lot better just writing this down and look forward to reading others experiences.

FYI, Ontario, Canadian bee here. Other Ontarians, please share! :)
