I wouldn't give juice if you can avoid it. It isn't that great for you (a lot of empty calories, not a lot of nutrition, a lot of sugar) unless you are making it yourself and feeding it fresh. Processed juices lose almost everything that made the fruit good.

I would use packaged juice only as a very rare treat when your child is sick and you are concerned about their hydration, to get them to drink. And even then, water it WAY down.

But if you have a juicer and can make raw juices, that's a different story altogether! Those are awesome for you.

@Thenetexan: He doesn't really care for water too much, actually. And I'm trying to get him off formula, onto milk so if I can get him to drink water and a little juice?

If your LO will drink just plain water, you may consider not offering juice at all. We just do water, which DS enjoys. I worry that if he had juice, he may prefer that over water.

We've managed to continue to avoid juices so far but I know that some brands make juices just for toddlers that are basically a watered down version of the normal juice. Maybe look for things like Motts for Tots apple juice.

My pediatrician strongly suggested that we not give DS any juice until after he turned a year old. At his doctor's appointment yesterday, we were okayed for milk and for juice but only a few ounces of the latter. What kind of juice did you introduce to your LO first? Did you add water to dilute it a little or just give them straight juice? Is one brand better than another, in your opinion?
