If temping is too difficult you can just track cervical fluid. Taking Charge of your Fertility is a great read. It's pretty basic though. After your period you have some dry days (no cervical fluid) and then you will start getting either creamy or sticky and then it will progress to watery or egg white before going back to dry or creamy. Once you get cervical fluid, start having sex every other day while you have cervical fluid. That way you don't have to do it every other day for the whole month. Sperm can live up to 5 days (maybe 6 or 7) in your reproductive tract. If you have sex when you have cervical fluid (especially the fertile quality) you're pretty much guaranteed to have sperm there ready for an egg.

You can use fertility friend to track it, you might start seeing patterns and can guess your O day based on your patterns. Have you been having regular sex every week for 3 years? If you have sex 3times a week you're pretty much guaranteed to have sperm available for an egg so I wouldn't feel guilty at all about going to the doctor ASAP if that is the case and you don't want to wait 6 months.

OPK OPK! Temping was just too vague/hard to know 100% for me. I did that 2 cycles when we started TTC and decided I needed OPKs and the very cycle I used them I conceived! I also used preseed and left my legs/butt up in the air a while after, but not sure if that helped or not. I think it was probably the right timing more than anything.

I did a pregnancy premester before we began actively trying. I charted (had done that for 3 years), used OPKs to confirm I was ovluating, started folic acid supplements, began visiting an accupuncturist, started chinese herbs.

I always took this on a more relaxed approach. I get pretty bad ovulation pains so I usually know when I'm ovulating. I would also DTD every other day for a week or two. I used opks one month but it didn't really matter. I never charted or anything. I got pregnant three times (2 ended in a miscarriage) doing it that way. First two were on the first month and my son took 3 months because I had a negative reaction to clomid.

I used glow and Ovia apps to track everything. I also used the clear blue ovulation tester, the one on Amazon for like $250 with sticks that cost $30 - a friend lent it to me so all I had to buy was the sticks. I was/am pregnant the first month I used it after trying for about 7 months.

I got pregnant the first month we started actively trying. I was temping and also actively on the look out for symptoms of ovulation. We also used Pre Seed! We DTD every other day during the fertile period. Right at the end of that period, I had all the classic ovulation symptoms and I made sure we DTD that night. Also, I was taking my prenatal vitamins for about 3 months prior and I was exercising regularly and eating pretty well.

With both of mine I was really active and my thyroid condition was well regulated. Thats all I can really attribute it to.

I would suggest finding a project or something you and DH can do together while you wait. Its so easy to get preoccupied and it makes for a great distraction. DH and i started hiking and were training for a long 14 day backpacking trip when I got pregnant with my first. We had to cancel the trip haha.

With my second, we just DTD every day for 2 weeks straight from when I started to observe a change in CM until I knew for sure I had ovulated.

another vote for the cycle/charting bible Taking Charge of Your Fertility, careful charting (I think most people use the Fertility Friend app), and OPK's. charting is a window into what is going on with your system and I thought it was the most valuable thing I did.

For OPK's, I tried both wondfo sticks and the CBE digital with the smiley face. I ovulate every month, but the CBE didn't always pick up my LH surge, whereas the wondfos did, (and you can watch the color build up) so don't get frustrated if digital doesn't work for you.

I don't know about checking your cervix, I didn't try that. I did (a lot!) check my cervical fluid, the topic of which is covered pretty extensively in the book. Each of the 3 times I got pregnant I had a lot of egg white fluid and had sex as soon as I saw it and every day (or every other day) until my temp rose. Good luck :) :goodluck:

@periwinklebee: temping works really well, but can have a bit of a learning curve. Plus, your temp alone doesn't usually predict ovulation, it just confirms when it has happened. There are other signs that can predict ovulation (cervical mucus, cervical position, etc.). As others have mentioned, taking charge of your fertility is a great resource. But there is also a quick and easy guide put out by the app/website fertility friend that could be a crash course.
Opks worked well for me, and I just used the cheap ones. But I knew I was ovulating and had a pretty good sense of my cycle already so I knew when to test.
We have done every day sex and every other day during my most fertile week and had success with both.

I would recommend OPKs (digital and wondfos have worked the same for me, you can confirm a positive on one with the other if you want to be 100% sure).

We DTD every other day the entire month DD was conceived. If you are using lube make sure it is sperm friendly. I 'charted' in the Ovia app but it was just to track the length of my cycle after I got off birth control.

Both times I got pregnant I had just reduced the simple carbs in my diet. If your body is insulin sensitive like mine, cleaning up your diet helps.

Good luck!! I know a lot of people have good luck with the Sperm Meets Egg plan. You use ovulation tests and basically have sex every other day from day 10 then when you get a positive ovulation test you have sex every day for three days then back to every other day. Google it for more info but I think you'll definitely cover all your bases that way!

Good luck!! :bfp:

When I got my first :bfp: I was on a diet, I think that eating lots of fruits and veggies and exercising regularly helped boost my fertility.

Hey guys... I'm a newbee and I really need your help! So this is our first month of seriously trying to get pregnant after three years of unprotected sex, with not one positive. Before going into my doctor screaming for help, I have to at give at least a good six months of actively trying and not just NTNP, to see where if I do have a problem or if I'm just not one of the lucky accidental cases. I did try to temp one month a about a year ago, but my dog kept chewing my BBT whenever I left it out, and after the fifth one I gave up haha... But today is the first day of my cycle, and I will be getting another one to start temping again. I plan to have it by the time my period stops- about 4 days.

So there's the back story, and this is where I need your help:

Can you ladies give me any tips on what you did during a cycle when you did get a bfp (if it has happened for you...)? And old wives tricks to increase fertility? I just started checking my cervix last night, and that's what's triggered my period to come early lol, so I plan to keep doing that. Any advice on checking my cervix? I just want to have some cyber friends to lean on, just in case this journey turns out to be long and trying!

Thnx ladies and here's to us getting those BFPs! 🤗
