@yellowbeach: @karenbme: Thanks for checking in. Our appointment was great, I will never forget the moment we saw the heartbeat, such a stark comparison to the ultrasounds we had during the last pregnancy. Watching the heart beat in baby's little chest, amazing.

I'm just shy of 8 weeks so obviously plenty of room for things to go sideways. However, we made it past the point of our last loss so that's something to celebrate. Also cause to celebrate...the copious nausea :silly: as I did not have that during our last, non-viable pregnancy.

Thanks again for checking in.

@SweetCaroline: It is annoying that they do it that way. I had the same experience as @bhbee: where because they knew I was anxious they did the us first. Even if you wait for the appointment it couldn’t hurt to check in with the nurses and see if they’re willing to flip it for you.

I'm in the same boat! I just had a MC at 9 weeks that stopped developing at 5 weeks. Now I've got a positive hpt that I'm scared to believe. I'm delaying going in for a blood test until I'm past the 5 week mark! My OB practice won't do an ultrasound before 8 weeks either.

@Shantuck: @karenbme: @bhbee: Thank you all. I think I'm really going to try and wait until 10 weeks. I know that even if I go next week at 8 weeks, my official 10 week appointment could still go sideways.

I'm just sitting here picturing how annoyed I'm going to be when the nurse gives me all these detailed forms to fill out, including formula sample request cards before I even have an ultrasound. DH is going to have to stomp on my foot to keep my mouth in check.

I agree about asking to talk to your ob’s nurse and express your anxiety and what would help you. After my loss though I intentionally went in at closer to 9w because I had seen a hb at 8w during the prior loss (found out at 11w) and apparently a lot goes wrong around 8w if the embryo is not healthy enough to continue. So it was a balance knowing an earlier hb was less likely to mean something and not waiting so long to find out if things weren’t right. I just tried to mentally power through but I was kind of a mess the whole first tri. Hugs and I hope they get you in when you want! She did give me an extra scan when I went in for my NIPT draw to be nice, as that office doesn’t do NT if you do NIPT so it would have been a long wait to see if the baby was developing on track (basically she just did a quick measurement for me to track growth).

@SweetCaroline: First of all congratulations! If there’s one piece of advice I could give, it’s talk to the nurses not the schedulers if you’re anxious and want to come in earlier. With my second pregnancy I was originally scheduled for 8 weeks, but called and spoke to the nurse about my anxiety and she got me an appointment at 6 1/2 weeks. She did explain that we wouldn’t be fully out of the woods, and with my current pregnancy even though we saw a heartbeat at 6 weeks, I had a lot of anxiety right around 10 weeks, which is when we found out about the first loss. But we got a home doppler and that helped a lot.

@SweetCaroline: I'm glad you're not a total stressball! My OB says she sees lots of losses around 9 to 10 weeks so that's why they like to wait. For example, I saw a great heartbeat at 8w4d and baby passed the next day about. I didn't know til almost 13w. If I had gone in at 10w I wouldn't have wasted my whole summer thinking I was pregnant (and telling everyone). Mine is just one anecdote. Everything turned out great with my third pregnancy :-)

I've had three losses and am currently pregnant with LO#3. After having my losses before LO#2, I typically like to go in at 8 weeks. It seems like things go wrong for me during the 6th week so I like it to be late enough where the ultrasound can be decisive but not too long that I've felt lousy for extra weeks when I could have known the pregnancy wasn't viable. If I were you, I'd try to move up the u/s a week or two earlier.

@pachamama: bah. I'm not a complete disaster, but I don't want to wait 3 weeks. I'm going to try to wait. I just know at that first appointment they are going to ask me 1,001 questions before they even see a heartbeat, questions that suddenly become irrelevant if they don't.

You and I were in exactly the same boat almost! from the loss to the D&c to the receptionist not letting me check in more on baby 😭😭. I was a mess emotionally. I had a really hard time being pregnant after the loss, it shook me. my nice OB also said she could do early ultrasounds but the reality is they wouldn't let me. I did have an 8w dating ultrasound bc that's the practice's norm (and the only early one my insurance would cover). Then I'm embarrassed to say at 10 weeks I pretended to have spotting just to get another one 🤪 the tech was rude about it but 🤷. I had a missed mc and was on progesterone so I didn't want that to happen again.

When did you have your first prenatal appointment, after you experienced a loss in previous pregnancies? Post D&C, my doctor said she would be happy to see me whenever, to ease anxiety. However, the receptionist booked me at 10 weeks despite my request to be on the earlier side.

I've just had the one loss. Last time I found out at 9 weeks that the baby stopped growing at 6 weeks. I don't want to wait that long again, just trying to gauge what might be common.
