@CatchAFallingStar: It's where you take Estrace tablets at the end of your LP in the previous cycle. It suppresses you a bit and keeps any follicles from growing too early or becoming cysts, which can happen with high FSH. It's a protocol they use with IVF for low responders/high FSH (estrogen priming protocol), but you can do just the estrogen and not the IVF part.

@SweetiePie: Well, the 1% is if we BD with no meds at all. It goes up to about 3% with Clomid/Femara and up to about 8% if we add IUI. But, IUI with injectables would increase the chance to 30%+. So, at least I know there's a chance.

I too wouldn't stress too much about the 1% until you have some more testing done. Easier said than done!
The testing and waiting is tough when you just want to KNOW and get started already! Hang in there, and I have everything crossed for you!

@CatchAFallingStar: I would wait for the rest of the results and it sounds like he's doing the right tests. Although you're worried about your age, your FSH alone isn't nearly enough to diagnose you with DOR.

With my first RE (who wasn't very good with DOR) they wanted to move me straight to IUI w/ injectibles and then IVF, but I learned after doing that that oral meds with very low doses of injectibles and TI can work much better for DOR ladies because it preserves egg quality. For me what worked (all three times last year) was estrogen priming, and this pregnancy we added 2 very low doses of injectibles (no IUI or IVF), and progesterone.

I think you have a lot of options!

@CatchAFallingStar: I'm a TOTAL weirdo (although you may have already noticed) and I actually did fertility testing before even trying. Ridiculous. Including an HSG. I had already maxed out my deductible on my PPO insurance, so why not? I've had hormone issues in the past and had a tumor removed off my right ovary four years ago.

RE said I must have had women's intuition, because was discovered we had a low sperm count, poor morphology, and the Ovarian Reserve Report rated me as "fair." The RE told me I had the egg counts of someone in their mid-40s. I am 29. -_- 48 hours later I got an e-mail informing me that my insurance was dropping all fertility benefits. :: deep breath ::

I haven't posted at all in the infertility boards, because I am not ready to come to terms with the fact that we may have fertility problems. So I'm just going with the flow.

But you're right- hearing 1% (even if it isn't entirely true) is a huge blow. It was unexpected.

Yes, I had an HSG and all was fine. Today was my first consultation with him, which is why we delved into conversation about possible treatments, etc.

I'm on about cycle 9, 10 or 11. It's hard to say because we took some months off in between. We've been trying since October 2012, but not the whole time. How about you?

@pui: Yup. My RE wouldn't discuss anything with me until we both had all the testing done, including an HSG.
@CatchAFallingStar: Have you already done an HSG?

I will also be checking my ovarian reserve and FSH again on my day 3, which _should_ be coming up if AF arrives in the not too distant future (I'm on CD28).

What cycle are you on again? But regardless, you definitely definitely are not alone.

I also was "diagnosed" with a 1% chance of conceiving, but we're giving it a little more time. :)

Also, you might want to catch up with Spanielove, who got pregnant naturally (ie. not IUI or IVF) several times with DOR.

@Mrs Green Grass: No male factor. Semen is above average in every way. :)

I think the reason he doesn't want to do just Clomid + IUI instead of injectables is just the cost. If we do 3 or 4 rounds with Clomid, it would pay for one round with injectables. I think he wants to streamline the process for us. I'm 35, so no time to waste.

I understand the relief from finally getting "answers" even when they're not awesome. I think you might want to look into stories of IUI + Clomid working with DOR. I found that many of the tests for DOR aren't very accurate, but the antral follicle scan is one of the best predictors. Do you have no male-factor?

Wishing you luck!

Well, I had my first RE appointment today. He thinks it's most likely diminished ovarian reserve. He said based on my FSH test that I had in November (8.58), DOR is probably the cause of our infertility.

He ran a couple blood tests today (AMH and progesterone) and will be doing more tests at the beginning of next cycle (which is about 2 weeks away), such as an antral follicle count ultrasound and Day 3 E2 and FSH tests. He said after that, he will possibly want to try a Clomid Challenge Test, depending on what my blood work tells us.

He also went over the fact that endometriosis is a strong possibility because of the debilitating cramps I've had since I was a teen. He said a laparoscopy might be required, but we'll wait on the other testing to rule everything else out first.

We will most likely have to do IUI with injectable medications, which will deplete our insurance budget ($3,000 per calendar year). If that doesn't work after a few rounds, we'll need to move onto IVF, but we can't afford yet, so we'll see.

I don't know how I feel. I'm not all that upset... I guess because I'm finally getting real answers. He said trying on our own with "unexplained infertility" without any intervention is probably only about a 1% chance per cycle. That's upsetting to hear. But, I do remain hopeful. He didn't say anything like "you'll never be able to get pregnant" or "you'll need to use donor egg" ... so, that's good!

Sorry for the long post. You girls are really the only people who TRULY understand this process. Even my hubby doesn't quite "GET IT."
