First of all, congratulations!

I had my dating ultrasound at 6w4 and dang, even then you are talking about seriously teeny tiny! I would trust in what your doctor says that all looks good. It's hard, I know! Even at 22w2 today, I struggle to think that this is all real and we'll actually have a baby at the end of this!

I think with the early scans, especially if you aren't 10000% how far along you are, you're just going to stress yourself out with the measurements. LO measured a few days behind at my first scan and they ended up changing my due date in my file at 12 or 18/19 weeks but they didn't tell me til the end! I wouldn't worry too much about it!

I had an U/S at around the same time and we weren't able to see much...definitely couldn't see a heartbeat yet. I had another U/S at 6w3d and we were able to see and hear one then! Congratulations and good luck! My E was my third time is the charm baby- I hope this little one is yours!

@TheSwissWifeStyle: Oh good! I had a mc at the beginning of the year, and the first sign was that my doctor said everything looked fine, but there was no hb yet and the pregnancy was 5w4d (or maybe 5w6d?) along. But I thought, based on ovulation tests, that I was already past 7w. She was surprised and thought I'd counted wrong until I went back 5 days later to confirm. So, it sounds like you are in good shape if you agree with your doctor's measurements!

@looch: They can't usually hear the heartbeat until later, but they can usually see it on the ultrasound at around 6w.

With LO and with this pregnancy, the early ultrasound (6 weeks) didn't show whatever it was supposed to show, so they weren't sure if the dates were off (they weren't) or if I was going to miscarry. Both times they prepared me for the possibility of a miscarriage, but also told me it could be absolutely nothing. Both time the second ultrasound (2 weeks later) showed everything was fine.

My point is, don't worry too much, If the doctor isn't concerned, you shouldn't be either.

@TheSwissWifeStyle: hmmm...I can look it up when I go home. I believe the real answer to that is TINY, lol. I could see almost nothing but a little blob on the screen..I didn't believe it was a baby.

Also, so you know, for the next two appointments, I measured at least one day behind each time (one day the first time, one more day the next). It freaked me the heck out...I was very much in a panic that baby's growth was slowing and we weren't going to make it. But my doctor pushed my EDD back two days when I was 8 weeks, and since then I've been measuring right on track. I was skeptical, because I was pretty sure of when my O date was, but it seems like he was right.

I'll also look at my other measurements, too...I think I had an u/s at 7 weeks or so. Let me see what I can dig up!

@TheSwissWifeStyle: hey lovely! I'm sorry to hear about the loss of one of the babies, but I'm so glad to hear that the other baby is growing well!

I had an u/s at 6w1d, and they were just able to see a heartbeat. BUT, it was only measuring at 100 BPM, and the tech had to try 3 times to get it. I was really freaked out, but I was told that since it was so early, it can be really hit or miss with the HB.

If the doc says things look great, then I'm choosing to believe that things look great for you. When's your next u/s? Hoping then you get to see baby growing like a weed!

First, congrats!!

So I think I had the exact same situation. I don't remember the exact measurements but I had an appt when I thought I was exactly 6w and measured around 1mm and no HB. I got nervous, but the doc said it was still early and asked to see me back in exactly 2 weeks. When I returned, I was over 8 weeks and measuring perfectly! Baby more than caught up in those 2 weeks. I know it's hard, but try not to worry, it is so early and I think what you saw was completely normal.

(Copy of post from June '14 board, just need some thoughts please!)

Hey ladies. So I just had my first scan. I'm 5w6d, or maybe 6w.

Not sure what to think about it. Doc assured me it was all "normal." Didn't see a heartbeat yet, but not like that would reassure me much anyway since I've seen one before.
I think the "fetal pole" was measuring at 1 mm. Is this normal?

From what I read online it said the pole grows 1 mm a day, starting at 6 weeks. So does this mean at week six it should be 1 mm?
But then other things I read say the "baby" should be 4 mm by now. I'm so confused.

I hate feeling like this!

ETA: oh yeah, my Doc also said it looks like 2 may have implanted at first, but now there's only one :(
