I had an emergency c-section; I was supposed to be induced, but the baby made it clear after one test contraction that he wouldn't tolerate labor well. But I remember hearing my son cry and telling my husband, "He's quacking!" and being relieved that he was making noise. He was growth restricted and four weeks early, and we had no idea what to expect.</p> <p>They took him off to do tests and make sure he was ok, but at some point, they brought him over to show me. I was still strapped down and I'm not sure if they were done stitching me up or not, but he was all wrapped up in a bundle and all I saw was his face. And I remember thinking, oh, good, he's cute! And then thinking, am I supposed to be doing something? So I kissed him on the nose (the only part of him I could reach).
