I did have to pump which was a pain but the silver lining of low supply is that I didn't really get engorged, and I didn't feel bad about my mom feeding her formula while we were gone because we already supplemented. So I pumped mostly to maintain the supply I did have which was about 5 times in a 24 hour period, at my convenience. I went on to BF for 19 months. It was really really really hard to leave her - like I had a mild anxiety attack on the plane. And then the trip was glorious and wonderful for our marriage. She stayed with DH and my ILs came to help. Then when she was 7 months Dh and I went away for a week and she stayed with my parents. She overnights frequently at my parents, probably once a week. Dd2 has already spent a few nights at my parents and she's just 2 months old. I had my gall bladder out last week and they have been a huge help as i recover. I had to pump but it was fine. I went away for four nights when he was 15 months I reallllllly missed him and my husband. I'd love for DH and I to get away but I don't know when that would happen. No one has offered to watch him and I feel bad asking. We weren't even gone for 24 hours though. My mom stayed with him. Before that I just didn't think it was worth it to leave her because I would have to pump. She also didn't sleep well so I felt bad leaving anyone else to deal with night wake ups. At 16 months she was weaned and sleeping better. We left her with my parents for 4 nights to go to Vegas. LO2 is a week old and I have no plans to leave him overnight in the first year, but would if something came up (like an out of town wedding, ETC.) But we won't just plan a kid free vacation in the first year for fun because of the pumping issue. We went to a concert and stayed overnight in the city we drove to. A month later I did 2 nights away (my husband kept DS) for a musical festival with friends. I hate it. I know that's terrible, but I am a "worst case scenario-er" and am always worried we'll be far away if he gets hurts and won't be able to get to him quickly. That's only for when we're both away together. Did you go with your husband or solo? The first time I left DD1 when she was a year and we went to a football game 8 hours away, we stayed 2 nights and she said with grandma. DD2 i went to Nashville with a friend when she was 7 months old for 3 days, but DH was home with the kids. I've never had issues leaving my kids since I trust our parents immensely, I think it does us both good to have a little break, although I miss them like crazy and smother them in kisses when I get back!
