@Mum: if you're worried about overlapping with your exams at all, I believe they can hold you on BCPs for longer, to delay your start date for stims. I only stimmed for seven days my first IVF cycle, I think, so sometimes it can move quite quickly.

Thank you ladies! @momazon: @Mrs Green Grass: @brady80: @brady80: @jaguar: @FliegepilzHut: @raintreebee: @PurplePumps: @Sunshine1810:

I spoke with my IVF coordinator today and she sent in some blood work for tomorrow morning (I have had some already done but she said I need a few more tests done). She said I will also start my BCP tomorrow and then get a call about more specifics. She thinks I'll start stimming May 23 so we can retrieve the first week of June (which is my last week of final exams). So I guess this is about to get real for me!

Thanks again for all your feedback! I'm a little less worried about stimming while working now!

I'm not a teacher but I worked through both of my IVF cycles without a problem. My clinic schedules monitoring appointments starting at 6:30 am so I was able to get in there before work. I was a little uncomfortable before retrieval but it was bearable. I did take off two days for retrieval and then the day of transfer.

I felt perfectly normal while stiming. The only time I felt a little off was after my first retrieval, but not bad enough to miss work. My second retrieval had no lingering effects at all and I felt completely normal.

I definitely think you can work while stimming if you can get to monitoring appts on time. I never felt bad while stimming.

I was on BCP for 1.5 months and then the stims started. I was able to work. The only thing (like others have mentioned) is needing time off for monitoring appts. You could try and schedule it for 7am if they have appts that early.

Good luck to you! My first IVF cycle worked and I'm now 14 weeks pregnant with twins (we transfered 2).

I worked while taking my stims...not bad at all. Just so you know, there's no way to predict how many days you will take and the last few days before triggering for retrieval can be quite busy. If you got started now (with the educational sessions, early monitoring, BCP), you'd probably be ready just as school was letting out! FX for you! :goodluck:

I was teaching while doing our first few IVF rounds back in 2012. Definitely do-able. The only thing I did was take a few extra days off after egg retrieval, because I was really uncomfortable. Good luck hon x

I work in a high school and I am usually able to make it to my appointments before work (my clinic does them from 7-9). You can definitely work while you are on meds, in fact I think it's a good distraction from IVF to be working. The only thing that is tough is not knowing from the start exactly when your ER and transfer will be. I would say start the process because like Mrs. Green Grass said, the cycle will not start right away. Good luck!

I'm a high school teacher too and did my retrieval in April. The only hard part was lots of appointments. During the week before retrieval, I had 3 appts in 4 days. My prep period was right before lunch and the clinic was 15 mins away so I could usu make it work, but I had to have people cover for me quite a bit too.

Also although it sounds like "right away" it often takes awhile to really start. You have to wait for a new cycle, often take bc for that cycle, then start the cycle after. You also have to take an injections class and get a schedule that works with your re, so it might end up pretty much being summer anyway (which would be much easier!).

One thing to make sure, though, is that your school schedule will allow for monitoring appts. Most clinics have them quite early, starting by 7am, but will this be too late for you? Once you start stimming, you'll need to go in for frequent bloodwork and ultrasounds (usually I would have to go for a baseline appt before starting then return on the 4th day to see how things are progressing. After that it could be every other morning or every morning, depending on how you respond.)

Oh yes, you can definitely still work! The stimming process is not that bad for most of us - your clinic will watch you carefully for OHSS as that can be quite bad. Good luck!!!!

Please join us on the IVF thread, where we gather for updates and cheer each other on. There are a couple of ladies going through stims now, a couple in their TWWs and more of us waiting in the wings to start. http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/ivf-thread-2

We have decided to move on to IVF after Cycle 19 ended in a BFN. This was our fourth medicated cycle and first IUI and I'd rather not waste my fertility coverage on procedures that don't have high odds any more.

My RE said I could essentially start whenever I want, just beginning with BCP to suppress until the time is has come to stim.

I am a high school teacher, yet impatient, so I was wondering if the prescription protocol is so unbearable that I should wait until summer to start or if I could go ahead with stimming and then be ready to go for retrieval once school gets out.

Were you able to work while on meds?
