@Bubbles: I had some trouble pushing LOs stroller uphill towards the end of 1st trimester. My blood volume hadn't caught up with my needs and I got dizzy every time I stopped moving. I had to sit down at red lights a few times. The dizziness went away after a few weeks.

@Foodnerd81: haha I can see that happening... but I dread to think what he would get up to if I fell asleep, he causes enough trouble while I'm awake! I don't think we get Daniel tiger over here but I hear it mentioned a lot on hb! Maybe I need to experiment a bit to find out what floats his boat!

@Bubbles: have you tried different shows? C was like that too until I found Daniel Tiger. Now she is way too obsessed- but she will sit through two episodes before getting antsy (so an hour). Not that I'm proud of that but at least it gave me a rest. I also definitely fell asleep on the couch as she was watching. Not my finest parenting hour when I woke up to her in my face going "HIIIiiiiIIiii mommy!"

@Foodnerd81: totally took a sneaky nap this afternoon! Unfortunately my LO still doesn't seem to be amused for very long by the TV (when does this magic time happen?!) - he's all excited when I first switch it on but within 5 mins he has lost interest and is trying to climb over the back of the sofa / feed grapes to the cat etc.! Otherwise I'd be all over it

I'm 26 weeks in a high risk pregnancy with a 3 year old 30lb DD. I still carry her but try to enforce stroller or walking as much as possible. I was tired in the beginning but oddly it gets easier and you get used to it. If makes the pregnancy whiz by!

I'm about 28 weeks pregnant and my son is 2.5, also about 32 lbs. I carry him around daily. I've been kicked in the belly various times during outfit changes, and am still lifting/carrying many items. Definitely not as gentle on myself as I was the first time around. So far all is well. I think it's just a different reality the second time around.

I was sick and soooo tired first tri, but made it through, it goes faster with a toddler to chase!! I find I have less patience with him now because I'm cranky and hot!

@Bubbles: oh and my LO got SO much more TV during the worst of it. No shame. And I napped during her naps or at least laid down and rested. It's rough but you get through it and the baby is fine.

Thank you so much guys it is so great to read this. I knew realistically it must be the same for everyone, but it just feels SO different to last time when I didn't so much as lift a heavy bag of shopping!

I am definitely going slower, at one point going up a hill today DS actually turned round and gave me a look as if to say 'what are you DOING back there mummy!' :silly:

yeah, been there, and it is exhausting and sucks, but your regular routine is totally fine and won't put baby 2 at risk. I had a toddler, a three story walk-up, and a subchorionic hemmorage, and I still did everything I usually do and it turned out fine! It was a lot more physically challenging to be pregnant with number 2, because number 1 still needs to be taken care of.

First trimester exhaustion with a toddler was terrible. I'm 28 weeks and carry around my 3 y/o some. I have cut WAY back trying to prepare her for after c section, but I still pick her up if needed. I wouldn't worry, drink lots of water and make sure you aren't dehydrated outside would be the main concern.

I have always been told that if you were doing it before you got pregnant, the physical exertion is fine (like carrying a 30 lb toddler- don't start doing that after you get pregnant but obviously you are already doing it so it's ok).

I definitely push the stroller a little slower, especially on hills- and it's comical how it of breath I get if I try to talk going up a hill. But I still carry the toddler and bags up the stairs like I always have.

I am making an effort to let her climb the stairs by herself more often. Partly because she's getting heavier and I'm getting more pregnant, but also because I'm going to need her to climb then once the new baby is here. She is 23 months, about 26 lbs.

Yes, you will be tired but should be just fine with your everyday routine with your toddler. Good luck!

Looking for a little reassurance from those who have been here - although I know I am probably being neurotic.

I am very newly pregnant and I have an 18 month old DS. I am very quickly realising how difficult it is going to be to follow recommendations about lifting and exertion etc., and can't help but worry I am putting the baby at risk.

We live in a flat and I carry our city mini up and down 4 flights of stairs every day, usually with a few bags at the same time. I don't have a car and so DS and I do a lot of walking (mostly with him in the pushchair). It's currently over 27c here (about 81f which I realise is probably a walk in the park to a lot of you - but it's very hot for us Brits!) DS is probably about 30lbs and quite often wants to be carried at least some of the time when we go out on foot. Over the last week I have regularly felt like I am pushing myself to my physical limit (which I know doesn't say much for my fitness!) and have had a little dizziness.

I have no problem sucking it up and getting on with it (and not sure what other option I have), but I am just scared I could be harming the baby or increasing the chance of something going wrong. I've been making sure to stay hydrated and trying to minimise activity, but I can't keep the poor little guy cooped up all the time.

Tell me you've been there, done that and it all turned out ok?!
