@bubblegum: well at that stage the baby is basically just a teeny bean. They had to do the ultrasound trans vaginally to actually see the baby at that point.

Congrats! With my first Pregnancy I went in around 6 or 7 weeks to confirm with a urine and blood test. They scheduled an ultra sound for later that week. I was around 7.5w with that one.

With #2 - they had me come in like fast. The office had been crazy busy so I called after 3 days of positive POS and they had me come in two days later. (Like 5w) - we scheduled an US for 7w...I think between 7-8w is the best time for them to accurately date - which is why they aim for that!

Congrats! I have had two early ultrasounds (around 6 weeks) where we were able to see a heartbeat. At my practice, they always give me a dating ultrasound. I think the 4 that I've had were (in order) 10 weeks, 6 weeks, 6 weeks, and 8 weeks. There doesn't seem to be any reason that they schedule them earlier or later other than when they have availability in their schedule.

@bubblegum: hmm, I guess your practice is on the conservative side then? but their willingness to see you early this time is definitely due to your m/c history, which is as it should be. making someone wait 3 months for a simple ultrasound after they'd gone through a m/c would be kind of cruel, IMO. I had two m/c's before my current (successful) pregnancy, and for this one they brought me in for betas in weeks 4-5 and for the first ultrasound at 6.5 weeks, which they don't normally do.

@LCTBQE: I'm in Philly with my last pregnancy they wouldn't even see me until at least 8 weeks and the ultrasound was close to 12 weeks that's why I was so shocked when they saw me so early and ordered an ultrasound

@bubblegum: what the pp's said--they'll definitely be able to confirm by 7+3! :goodluck: at my OB's practice (in NYC) the first ultrasound is usually in week 8. not sure where you are, but I think waiting 12 weeks is pretty excessive in most parts of the US, although I've heard 12w is standard in other countries.

When I went through IVF, my first ultrasound was at 5 weeks. I was able to see the fetal pole of my twins. Anytime after 6 weeks, you should be able to hear a heart beat.

Congrats on your rainbow baby!

I went to my first obgyn appt yesterday and surprisingly enough they let me come in this early in the game. I'm only 5w7d. To top it all off they ordered an ultrasound for this week. Due to my work schedule I'm unable to do it until next week but that's still really early. I'm not sure if it's because I've had a miscarriage or because this is my second baby...any thoughts? Or has anyone had an ultrasound done that early? I'll be 7w3d on the day of the ultrasound.

Either way I am sure excited. I think this ultrasound will give me a little piece of mind.
