At my first ultrasound, I was nervous and too shy to ask questions. And then I went home and wished I had just asked and not been so shy about it. So at the next ultrasound, I just asked whatever question popped up in my head. Like "What's the circular thing right there?" or "Is that normal?" When I went for my 7w ultrasound, I thought it would be transvaginal since the last two had been (I had some spotting so they brought me in a couple of times). So I peed long and hard before going in and then she said, "Well, we're going to try it abdominally today!" Which you need a full bladder for. Thankfully my super pregnant pee supply meant there was still enough in my bladder that they got a nice, full picture.</p> <p>But most of all, don't be nervous, and if you're nervous, tell them! I find that helps me tremendously. If it's the former, just try to relax your pelvic muscles and say if it hurts. If it's the latter, I don't have much advice but just ask questions. It'll probably be a transvaginal one, so be prepared for a wand to be stuck up in your business. They'll probably do a dating so you can see if your due date is right. It is so fun to see your baby for the first time - it'll look like a bean shape and you'll probably get to see the heartbeat (but won't be able to hear yet)...looks like a little flicker on the screen. It does make it a little bit more "real".
