I bought the fitbit Surge and I'm LOVING it. It is a bit chunky but I got used to it quickly and i'm obsessed with my steps, floors climbed and calories burned (they all display on the watch), and it has GPS which has made my Garmin obsolete. The fitbit app is so great too.

Based on online recommendations and those of friends, I bought my dad the Garmin Vivosmart. It's by far trimmer than most of the other devices, and syncs via BT to download activity to phone or computer. You also get updates on move time, and phone calls and texts are visible on the display, as well. I understand that the sleep function isn't quite as good as some other companies' algorithms, however. The new version has HR monitor built in to the band, although you can use a separate monitor with the original.

I've actually used both the Fitbit Charge HR and the Jawbone Up 2, and in terms of step-counting/fitness tracking, they're completely compatible and both super easy to use. The Jawbone doesn't need to be charged as frequently, so it wins there... but I lean slightly toward the Fitbit Charge HR for two reasons. 1) It tracks my heartrate (and thus calculates calories burned more accurately) and 2) there's a social component (you can add friends and see them hit milestones and cheer them on - but I'm competitive so it really motivates me to move to get more steps.)

@Ash: Yeah. There were good deals on both.

I've gotten the fitbit charge (to take advantage of low prices today) but am still interested in feedback/votes if people have preferences!

I got a Garmin vivofit which is like a fitbit. It was fine until it just stopped syncing. It never worked right on my phone, but now it doesn't work on the computer either. That's only after about 6 months. I would get a fitbit. One advantage to the fitbit is if you know someone else with a fitbit, you can do challenges with them or friendly competitions.

My mom has been wanting a fitness tracker since she's started losing weight and becoming more active.

My sister and I are sort of wavering between the Jawbone Up3 (because it's pretty and not fitnessy) or the fitbit charge (because you can view your steps on the actual arm band)

Our mom doesn't have a smartphone, but is also talking about upgrading to one (and maybe if she had a reason like syncing a fitness band she might do it sooner?)

Has anyone used both products and have a preference? Mom is somewhat computer savvy, so as long as someone set up her computer to sync with the band, she'd be able to do it from there until she did upgrade her phone. I just don't know if that would be super inconvenient?

Which would you get?
