@regberadaisy: we put 2 car seats in the back on opposite sides of the bench and the infant seat in the middle behind the driver's seat. We just used a seat belt install for all the car seats I think (my BIL installed them, so I'm not entirely sure).

I've done a road trip in my moms sienna with 8 adult females and while tight, it wasn't an issue. Drives were about 5/6 hours each way.

We rented an 8-seater Sienna last summer for a long road trip with 3 adults and 3 carseats (1 infant, 2 Britax) and it was cozy. Maybe you all pack lighter than we do? I was pregnant at the time and we joked that we'd need a 15-passenger van to do the trip again once baby came!

@mrbee: read this comparison of the odyssey and Sienna in terms of seats that allow LATCH.

My brother has a Sienna and they regularly take 8 hr road trips to come visit me. It seats 7, legally (1 car seat) and fits all their luggage for 4 days plus groceries to stock my freezer. :P

@Mrs. Jacks: is yours a newer model or is the 8th seat an upgrade? I'm trying to envision the optional seat in the 3rd row. There's no empty spaces. Do you mean the second row?

We've traveled with two car seats and six adults for a short road trip (3 hours) in an Expedition. It was manageable but nothing I'd recommend.

The Odyssey can seat 8 comfortably and you can most likely fit all the luggage in the trunk as well.

ETA: 4 full car seats or are boosters included?

We have traveled both ways, our odessey with 4 adults and four car seats and renting 2 cars. With four full car seats it is super tight. If it's a longer ride I think 2 cars is preferable. Even when it was just Ray and I traveling with the four kids sometimes we got two economy cars and each drove one because it was significantly cheaper than renting a mini van unless you get the weekly rate and then I think the mini van was cheaper.

You might want to think about renting 2 vehicles. Fitting 8 people in one vehicle is doable - but what about all the luggage?!?!

You can fit 8 people in a Suburban. We took one on a work trip, and it wasn't too bad. We didn't have any car seats though.

My mom has a newer model Honda Odyssey and it seats 8. The first row of seats actually extends a few inches if needed which might be useful for fitting all the car seats.

Our minivan (Sienna) can seat 8. There's an optional seat that you can pop into the third row for an 8th person. I'm not gonna lie, it's tight... But Mr. Jacks has used it for work (which meant 8 engineers-- not huge guys, but guys nonetheless). Odessey also seats 8, but we never utilized that function in test drives.

We're renting a car for a road trip and will need room for four car seats + four adults! So, there has to be room for 8 people. I think most minivans can only fit 7 people though. Is our only option to rent a passenger van, or get two separate vehicles?

Will research it further, but wondering if anyone has experience with traveling with big parties!
