If you google restore a finish it will give you directions. They suggest a specific wax and I can’t remember the name off hand. Poly or any other top coat is not compatible with the restore a finish. I think the restore a finish kind of “melts” the existing finish which is what evens it out and takes away the scratches. It is stinky stuff while you’re using it so id do it outside or in the garage.

@BadgerMom: so some furniture wax after that stuff? I have never actually used furniture wax, but that’s better than like a polyurethane for this right?
@crazydoglady: thanks for the pic- always always helps in the store aisle when I freeze :silly:

@newlypregnantlady: thanks! I think so. And it matches the bedroom set I had from when I was 7 years old until I moved out. Basically this $25 find just changed my whole plan for her room. 😂

Restore A Finish. Buy it in the closest matching color, rub it on, buff it with some wax, and in my experience it may not look good as new, but it'll look pretty darn good!

Any handy DIY bees have ideas to fix the top of a vintage wood bookcase? I just bought it on a yardsale site for my lo’s room, planning to paint it, but it actually matches the dresser in her room that is from when i was a child, and in better shape than I expected, so I’m going to keep the wood.

But the top is more scratched than I would like. I don’t need perfect (it’s a 3 yo’s room and I like the character- the piece is at least 60 years old), but would like to smooth it out and protect it. Ideas on easy fixes?
