@mrsjyw: I have used both of these (Trifexis, Sentinel) and been very happy. I believe Trifexis has the heart worm medication in it as well. Sentinel is just for fleas and ticks and you still have to give a separate heart guard pill for heart worms

Another oral pill user. We switched long ago for the benefits of the medicine itself (used Comfortis and now Trifexis since it's come on the market) - not having to worry about a topical around LO is just added benefit.

@dc yoga bee: I have a 75lb Labrador that can't do the pill, either. But she's always had a sensitive belly. Plus I'm pretty sure she hallucinates on Trifexis.

We use Advantage Multi, and just put it on right after my son goes to bed. That way it's a good 12 hours before he's exposed to it. And the dog isn't especially fond of him touching her, so she tries to hang out away from him, anyways.

We use the Costco brand flea drops with our 16 month old in the house. We don't open the doggy door to let them in for a few hours.

The concern about using topical meds is why some people use an oral medication like comfortis. I feel strange giving my dog something that is so strong though--it kills all fleas within 30 minutes!

If you have kids, do you use these on your pets? How do you minimize children's exposure? We just got a new dog and I don't want her to bring fleas into our lives, but I am afraid to use the meds I used to always use on my old dog before I had kids.
