@Happygal: Yeah it's not as bad as I thought. I thought I saw a lot of flea dirt on one of our carpets and it was just a seed packet my husband had left on the table open that had been knocked over and spilled everywhere, so I've really only seen one flea.

@maysprout: I can't remember if I used them both. I think it would be okay if you did though, since one is systemic and the other is topical. Comfortis is what we used.

I will also say that she didn't have an awful case. I saw them mainly on her belly. I didn't do an over the top cleaning, and we were okay.

@Maysprout: use that this month, then move to the pill next month. That's what we're doing. We did the fronline on her back because it's what we had rightthatmoment.

@Happygal: @mediagirl: did you use the oral pill with the regular topical treatment. I ended up finding our last dose of frontline and putting it on them last night.

Frontline and advantage no longer work for us. Our cat uses comfortis I think. We've used trifexis for the dogs but the tick prevention was lacking so we switched to a collar called soresto. Although this may not be the best option for you while pregnant since you might end up with more exposure to chemicals. Seeing a few fleas doesn't necessarily mean a huge infestation they could have just jumped on from outside. But definitely vacuum and wash all bedding to be sure they don't stick around.

Fleas are so awful! Sorry you're dealing with this. My dog was on Frontline and she got them, too. I heard fleas and ticks are building up resistance to certain topical drugs. I gave her a dose of an oral med for just one month. They can be tough on digestive systems, and she had a sensitive stomach. I cleaned everything (look online how to do this--great tips) and then went back to Frontline--the fleas stayed away.

Hopefully we can get this knocked out quick. I may hurt my husband, what I thought was flea dirt/poop was just a seed packet of lil black seeds he had spilled everywhere and he hadn't cleaned up so then was tracked around the one room. So I've only seen 1 flea, still not happy but it's not the full infestation that I first thought.

Ugh. We had them recently, too. Definitely vacuum the house and wash the dog beds and your bedding if the dog sleeps there. Get some flea/tick on and then get a dose of comfortis, it's great for knocking them out. We had some fleas when we got home from our vacation. Thankfully there weren't a lot so we were able to get rid of them quickly.

By the way, we're going with the oral drug now, too instead of the stuff you put on their backs.

First, wash everything the dog has come into contact. Second, vacuum vacumm vacuum. Third, see if your husband can give the dogs a flea dip bath. Fourth, put on oral flea medication, you may need to do weekly. Please keep in mind that the issue is you need to get rid of any "baby flea/flea eggs" that's why it's so important to clean clean clean.

Yikes. Good to know that Frontline stopped working with others. I'd heard from others that it didn't work for their dogs but not that it stopped working. I found some in the closet last night so I woke my husband off and they were dosed again but I'll try another brand when we buy more. Lots of vacuuming and laundry today.

Frontline stopped working on our pets so we switched to Trifexis. It is easy because it is a pill and is very effective. I was late giving it to my pup this month and noticed she had a lot of fleas. I gave her the pill and they were all gone within 24 hours.

Ugh, so sorry you're dealing with this! Our pug had fleas this summer for the first time in his six years. We ended up bombing the house with these foggers that are supposed to be 'no mess' and that did the trick. There was no residue or odor after we aired the house out for 2 hours.

I switched to an oral flea pill from the vet. Something like triflexa. It also has heartworm. we got to the point we were doing frontline every three weeks and it wasn't enough so we knew we had to switch to aomethingg else. They cleared up immediately. Before you buy more frontline think about a different brand.

So we have 2 dogs and in the 7 years we've had them we have never had fleas. We keep frontline on them so I assumed that's why it's never been a problem. Of course 2 weeks before my due date I find fleas - not many that I see but they're there. They dogs are about a week overdue for their Frontline (though we usually try and stretch it to a month and a half and have never had problems before) so that will be my first purchase tomorrow.

So what else do I do to get rid of them? I'm super pregnant so chemicals don't seem like a great idea but . . .
