We got to the airport about 3 hours before our flight. </p> <p>So far things are going well after we got to the airport. We used the sky cap so we didn't have to wait in line to check our bags. No line for security. Delta is giving away snacks, drinks and food (sandwiches) to make up for the delay. Flight is not full so we can take both car seats on the plane because we got a full row to ourselves! Woohoo! And it is a big hub for Delta so even if you live many states away your flight may have been part of the domino effect. My canceled flights were in/out of LGA which is only a few miles away.</p> <p>By checking in, I didn't mean you had to check in again. It was a response to the other posters who said you may still need to check in prior to the originally scheduled dept time. What @SweetiePie: said is true, and happens all the time. I've seen irate passengers who missed their flight because the left the gate of a supposedly delayed flight, went to the bar, and came back to find the plane departed! It's somewhere in fine print that the airline reserves the right to bump the time back up to maintain their schedule. On a holiday weekend in particular, if they get a good weather window they will push the departure time forward again to avoid further delays/missed connections. Besides, once you're at the airport, you can negotiate in person for seats on a different flight - though with three seats needed, chances unfortunately probably arent great for that. </p> <p>Good luck! Because a delay can be removed or shortened.<br /> I would go normal time and just plan accordingly. Extra food/snacks/diapers. I would lighten my load if I'll be walking more. Take a stroller and gate check. Check car seats curbside if I'm not using them on the flight. Etc. </p> <p>Good luck! I travel a ton with my son and every time things go wrong I feel so stressed at the time. But then when I look back I think "well that wasn't so bad! I guess the few flights I've been on have been delayed (short delay mostly less than an hour) but they've always been changed so the delay was less time than expected. So I'm assuming it is most likely definitely delayed. Unless they are able to find another plane and the flight leaves on-time. </p> <p>Ugh, what to do...
