If the middle seat gets booked, you can offer whichever seat works best at the time. Where we tend to fly is a huge tourist spot so we don't even bother hoping- the flight is always full. If your lo is very mobile I say aisle. Usually we will take him for a walk when aisle stranger gets up, but usually they offer to move to let us past. I also like to ask the check-in staff to block the third seat if the flight isn't full. She got comfy leaning against the window to nap or watch shows on the iPad.
