I too would worry more about the baby than the preschooler. You gotta done at you gotta do! One way or another you'll be there with all the stuff around 11, plus whatever commute and picking up luggage. You can do this.

I would be more concerned about the baby more than your preschooler. My 3 year old is much more flexible than my 7 month old! It's not just the 10pm flight but getting to the airport, checking in, going through customs, waiting, sitting on the plane, waiting for luggage and getting to the destination. I look at the "what time will we get to the hotel" time.

Thanks everyone. It's hard to say no to the flight since it's about $200 cheaper (x3!) than flights earlier in the day. I'm anxious as it is since we haven't flown with our kids before. And all the crap we will have to lug with us.

For an hour flight, I don't think it will matter too much. I would not count on your older LO sleeping though--I imagine they will be too amped up.

agree with @lamarniere:. we did a similar flight with LO1 when she was 15 months old that was supposed to be from 830-10p. well, it ended up being delayed and didn't leave the airport until 10p! she was incredibly pleasant (and awake!) at the airport through the whole delay. we also did the same flight during naptime two weekends in a row with her around that same age...one went awesome (pleasant, slept), and the next one was the worst flight ever (overtired, screamed most of the flight).

i think flying with kids is a total crapshoot, so you just book whatever works for you (time/price-wise).

ETA: and always have emergency benadryl. just in case. haha. kidding. kind of.

I don't think times really matter in the grand scheme of things. Your LO could pass out from fatigue or be wide awake with excitement. We always just book what is most convenient.

Nope. I've only flown with my kids twice, the second time was just this past week, 6 hours each way, and it doesn't really matter when you go: if you expect they'll sleep, they won't, and their schedules get messed up with travel anyway. My kids have been calmer flying when they usually are in bed at night, so I'd do it if I were you.

Our flight back home from a thanksgiving trip ended up getting delayed and delayed. The flight went from 6pm to 11:30pm. My LO was two at the time and her bedtime is usually 9ish. I thought she would def sleep before we boarded so my husband I took turns strolling her up and down the terminal. (She's usually good at falling asleep in her stroller). She didn't make a big fuss but she refused to sleep. We must have strolled her for over an hour.

I was worried she'll get on the plane and be overtired and fussy and make a huge distraction but as soon as we sat down, she passed out.

Maybe your LO will too once the plane gets up in the air?

Would it be completely insane to fly with a nearly 4 year old and 8 month old at 10pm? The flight is only a little over an hour, but that's definitely past bedtime. The infant I'm reasonably confident would sleep.

Oh and this would be a first flight for both kiddos.
