So right now we have her in her crib in he lowest mattress setting and the toddler railing up. She can get in and out of it fine by herself and even though she always hated the crib she is fine with it now that the toddler railing is up.

I'm happy this way too, the people before us had ants downstairs (crib is on the second floor though) so I was starting to imagine little buggers crawling on baby if we had the mattress on the floor. We keep her door open with just a baby gate in the door and we haven't had this set up for long but it seems to be working well.

@chopsuey119: It's gated all around. We have a full sized mattress on the floor and we bought this North States playyard.

http://www.amazon.com/North-States-Superyard-Play-Classic/dp/B00020L78M

We had to buy an extension to make it into a huge SQUARE.

@banana: We really need to get a gate for our LO's floor bed.. I'm just worried that it won't fit! How many sides of the bed are gated?

We also use a floor bed. We placed a gate around the entire thing so that he can't get out of it. So it's basically a huge floor crib. It's working really well for us. In a few months, we plan on removing the gate and installing a baby gate on the door so that he can't wander into our rooms. We love the floor bed! We plan on doing the exact same thing with our daughter too.

@Maysprout: I would just make sure you have nothing that could cause her harm, and I would have a video monitor to keep an eye on her.

@Maysprout: we're doing it in our room first. Baby steps have been working for us. We never thought we'd be able to get her out of baby wearing for naps!

@Mrs. Jacks: Oh that's a good idea to just start with naps to get her used to it. Since we're moving and it'll be a new house to her I'm not sure whether it'll be better to just try her out in her own room so she's not used to sleeping in our room or if she'll end up in our room sometimes anyways so it's not that big of a deal.

We've got a floor bed. Right now it's great for naps and hopefully we can transition her at night soon. She's still sleeping with us.

That's a little what I'm worried about is making sure it's baby proof enough. We call her danger baby because she's always able to find the most dangerous object in a room. I'll have to sleep in there for a bit to make sure she doesn't find a creative way to hurt herself.

I don't have much advice but my sister in law is really into the Montessori method and just recently put their 11 month old in a floor bed. They usually just tell him to go bed and he goes and gets in his bed. He seems to be really happy there too. I think my only concern would be making sure the room she is in is super baby proof! good luck!

We had LO on a floor bed since she was a newborn.
From months 9-13 it's been a little rough since she gets up and crawls into our room at least once a night.

Just wanting to know other's experience using floor beds. Little girl is anti-crib, she's fine sleeping on a mattress though either on our bed or on the floor without us. I'm hoping when we move to transition her into her own room and just use a floor bed instead of a crib.

Any experiences with floor beds for a little one, she'll have just turned a year but is super mobile.
