woohoo! If you can ask for it, we were given some numbing ear drops to help E out when we traveled, since she had fluid in her ears before we left for Mexico.

He tested negative for flu!!!
They think it may be the start of an ear infection but gave us antibiotics now so that there should be no inflammation by the time we travel. She also gave us the all clear that whatever he has is unlikely to be contagious by Thursday.

@PrincessBaby: Thanks for the HFM info. He hasn't had it yet but it was a low fever and I don't know of anyone around who's had it here. We'll be on the lookout!

@mamimami: You're right! Thanks for the sanity check. We missed our honeymoon because of illness so I was in freak out mode.

@Mamasig: @bluestriped bee: @avivoca: @oliviaoblivia:
@mrs. bird: Thanks all for the info! He tested negative so it's not likely! Handy information to have though since daycare germs are going around!

start loading him up with oscillococcinum!! the earlier it's taken, the better it will work. they have a toddler version you can buy it at any CVS, walgreens, rite aid, target, whatever you have near by, the key is getting in early.

I hope B is feeling better!

When I had the flu I missed eight days of school. It was awful. Hoping that's not what he has!

I had the flu in 2010. It took me a good week to feel human, and two weeks to feel like my normal self. If it's the flu, he's likely not going to enjoy the trip (which means you won't either), but check with your doctor. I traveled after my fever was gone for four days and I still needed to rest a lot.

I don't have kids but I have had the flu and it took me a good week to get over it and feel a little bit better. I would personally postpone a week or so. If it was really too expensive to change the flights, I might leave my child at home with my parents or something.

I don't know if it is the flu or not. I would see if the dr can tell you if that's what he has.

Last year I got the flu even after having the flu shot. I felt very bad for about 2-3 days. I started on tamiflu the day after I began feeling bad. But I was weak and run down for a while. I was pregnant at the time, but prior to getting the flu I was actually feeling energetic and fine. So no, I definitely would not get a plane with a baby that has the flu even 5 days later. I felt normal about 3 weeks later.

I think you're getting ahead of yourself a bit. So many things can cause a fever. I'd just wait and hear what the pedi says.

My LO has never had the flu (knock on wood!) but if he tests positive on a flu swab tomorrow, then I would say he probably doesn't need to be flying in a few days. I would think he would still be contagious, but I could be wrong.

Did he have the flu shot? Maybe it's not flu if he has (or even if he has, he could obviously have caught a different strain)...HFM is going around big time. We just got over it and it started with a high fever. Hope he feels better!

So we got a note home from daycare Fri that one of Bs classmates has the flu and to watch for a fever.
Today he has a fever.
I'm going to take him to the doctor tomorrow to get tested.
We are due to fly to London Thursday.
Obviously will take doctors advice very seriously, but how long will he be feeling bad? How long will he be contagious?
DH is worried about us getting sick over there but B and I are covered and I doubt they would charge DH if he got sick.
My concern is comfort and being contagious.
What has been your experience with flu?
Would you travel 5 days after onset of symptoms?

Really hoping it's just teething or a cold!!
