As baby will be born in January, both my husband and I received the flu shot. In addition, we asked both sets of grandparents to get the flu shot (all were a-ok with the request). My cousin just had her baby this past week and has asked that everyone who will be attending Thanksgiving have a flu shot. Overall, my entire family is fine with the request (I get that it is a personal request and some may not be - but lucky for us, our family didn't mind)!

I am still torn on this. I never got it for myself nor would I consider it. I also didn't think I would have it while pregnant, but...
1) my doctor is quite convinced about this; which is not that bad, I can stand up for myself... However,
2) my husband would really want me to get it and he would get it as well. He got it in the past. So I haven't decided yet, but how can I say no to my husband, it's his child as well! Decisions, decisions....

I had never had one before, but I did get my flu shot this year, since I'm pregnant. My doctor's office encouraged it, and they administer preservative-free flu vaccines at their office. I was a little nervous b/c DH's cousin had Gullain-Barre syndrome last year caused by his flu shot, which is a very serious complication from a flu shot. The chances of getting that are 1-3 in a million though, and the chances of getting the flu while pregnant are much much higher.

I haven't gotten it yet, but am pretty sure my midwife will advise me to get it when I go in for my first appointment at 7 weeks. I have to convince my husband to get it as well. Neither of us get the flu shot regularly, but I think it is so important when pregnant.

I get mine every year, because I work in NICU, and I think it is really important for me to do everything I can to protect myself and those little people. This year I am pregnant, and I got it, and have requested that the grandparents and my siblings (who will all spend a lit of time with baby) get it as well. I believe they all have.

I got my flu shot at 11 weeks. My OB only offers the one that is thimerosal free (no mercury). Also, the CDC says the nasal spray should not be given to pregnant women.

If someone in your or your husband's family has had an adverse vaccine reaction, then I'd advise against it. If your baby is due outside the cautioned time window, then I'd get the nasal spray - no risk of autism from that one (it's the preservative in the injection that contains the neurotoxic substances.)

ETA: I will not get a flu shot. Ever. Or any other vaccine. The last one I had caused a seizure disorder among MANY other things, and I'm still recovering four years later. (Of course, that vaccine is responsible for over 23% of all adverse reactions to vaccines.)

I get a flu shot every year. I swear by it. I did get the flu already this year. I got it a few days before I was scheduled to get my flu shot. I couldn't get it because I wasn't completely healthy. I need to get it soon, though.

They had free ones at work last week and I asked them about it, but they said that most doctors don't want you to get them until the second trimester (I am still in the first). So, I didn't get one. (I probably should have called my doctor to see what she says, but my office has an open floor plan and I haven't told anyone yet, so I didn't want anyone to overhear me talking about it.)

I'm guessing my doctor will bring it up when I have my first appointment this week. I never get them and never get sick, so I'm not really worried one way or the other. I didn't get one when I was pregnant with my daughter, but I lived in the middle of the desert in a town with only a few hundred people, so it wasn't a big concern.

Your immune system is compromised when you're pregnant which is why i went ahead and got one this year. I've never gotten them in the past, but had a pretty nasty cold right at the beginning of my pregnancy and was miserable. I wanted to do whatever I could to prevent getting the flu since there really aren't a lot of medications you can take. I don't think it's something I'll keep up with in coming years, but while pregnant I thought it was a good idea.

I got the shot early this year when I was pregnant but I really only had ever gotten it maybe twice before. I do not think that the flu shot falls into the same category as all other vaccines (which I think are important) so I don't think I'll be getting another one this year. Something important to look at is the Tdap shot though. We are having the grandparents also get this this year to be extra safe.

Getting the flu shot doesnt guarantee that you wont get the flu since the shot only protects against a few strains of the flu. I've never gotten the flu shot and dont intend to, because all the people I know who got it still got the flu and wished they had never bothered getting the shot

I had NEVER gotten the flu and had never had the shot, my Midwife didn't think this was valid since I've never been pregnant before, lol. She basically forced me to do it; I think the flu shot is unnecessary. But, whatever, don't wanna piss off the old Swedish lady who will be delivering my baby...

I never had a flu shot until I became pregnant. I was about two weeks away from my due date when I got it. I felt the risks outweighed any concerns. I am breastfeeding so my immunity was passed to my son while he was still in the womb, and once he was born through milk.

My son was also born mid-September, which is when the flu starts going around. His pediatrician told us that if our son had a fever within the first eight weeks of life, he would be admitted to the hospital and receive a spinal tap to diagnose it. After I heard that, I felt better about getting the flu shot myself and hopefully giving my son immunity. For the record, he is 8 weeks today and has not had a fever yet. :)

I had never given much thought to the whole flu shot thing. I haven't gotten one regularly, but now that I am pregnant, I thought it would be the thing to do to protect myself and the baby. One of my best friends has always gotten the flu shot, and when she was pregnant, she got it as usual.

I didn't think anything of it until I consulted Dr. Google to see if it mattered what trimester I am in (I'm on 5 weeks) to get the shot. To my surprise, there was quite a bit of back and forth about whether the shot's benefits (not getting deathly ill and affecting your baby) outweighed its possible potential downfalls (connected to autism? mercury in the shot itself?). For the record, I believe the Mayo Clinic and the CDC both recommend flu shots for pregnant women.

So to all you mamas and mamas-to-be: Did/will you get the flu shot? Why or why not?
