I haven't heard anything about two doses for this year! Like PP mentioned, our son got 2 doses the first year, then last year and this year were 1 dose each.

My pediatrician friend sent the same chart as posted above and said she just needs the one (but to call her ped). I think j will call and speak with her NP to clarify because I think she should be telling people the right info!

@PurplePeony: I am not sure actually- I thought she was a nurse, but I didn't really ask (since I didn't think it mattered. She *acted* more knowledgable than some of the non doctors (medical assistants? Nurses?) than I have dealt with at the practice. But I've had issues with other advice I've gotten from nurses over the phone there.

@Foodnerd81: are you sure it was an actual nurse who gave the shot? At the practice my LO goes to, the people who give shots are generally just medical assistants, not actual nurses, and they're not supposed to give us information (unless it's just handing us the generic info sheet they give to everyone) or answer any care-related questions. I'd definitely talk to someone higher up at your ped's office because that's problematic if she's telling people wrong information!

My doctor said they had to get the booster the first time they got the shot. My son ended up getting the flu before we could go back for the booster so we never actually got it, so I'm not sure how that will work this year.

@Foodnerd81: I attend the meetings where these national recommendations are made. The figure @gotkimchi: posted is correct - if your child has received 2 doses of flu vaccine AT ANY TIME (the doses don't have to be in the same year), only 1 dose of flu vaccine is needed. Also, if your child received only 1 dose last year, they still only need 1 dose this year (it's the 2nd dose that is effective, no matter when it is given).

You should definitely contact your NP or physician, though, because the nurse sounds like she has some wrong information.

This is a good questionnaire to help determine whether your LO needs 1 or 2 doses this year: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/?sm=6VxHzJ7udWzoTbE9TkNvoA%3d%3d (I know it's Survey Monkey, but it's put together by a children's hospital - it's legit!)

So annoying to get wrong or weird info! I'll text my friend who is a pediatrician (but not local) and call her actual NP at the practice to get a straight story. I didn't realize it was just two of the same doses.

I feel kind of dumb, I don't usually just blindly follow whatever they say but I thought this was pretty straightforward.

I specifically asked and was told one dose for my 3 year old, who also has had one dose every year of her life since she was 1.5. We were overseas for that first dose, and I don't think they did the two doses then. The last two years, she's had the nasal one.

My 17 month old had two doses last year, do got one (baby) dose this year.

@Foodnerd81: You are correct in this scenario - LO is good with 1 dose this year. They don't actually give 1/2 doses; they give 2 full doses the first year because 1 dose isn't effective the first time (the 1st dose "primes" the immune system so that the 2nd dose can take effect). I work in public health - you can trust me

If your LO is under 36 months, did they have to get the flu shot in two doses? C has gotten it every year, so when she was tiny it was two doses, last year, at 1 yo, it was one dose. Went today for it and after the nurse did the shot, she mentioned that we have to come back in a month for the second dose. I said she had just the one last year but she thought they changed it this year, for everyone under 36 months.

I didn't really question it further since there wasn't anything I could do and I just wanted to give LO her treat after her shot, by curious if other practices do it that way or it just mine?
