thank you guys! the amount prescribed was 20 mg daily - but last time I was on it (pre-pregnancy, 2007-2011) I was up to 40 mg. I've really been tearing myself up over it.

My LO is 15 months and I had never planned on nursing this long - we only nurse in the morning every other day, anyway. To be honest, we were already on the road to weaning and I was okay with it - until I felt like I was being pushed into a corner and forced to wean for a reason other than being ready. I know that sounds silly..but some comments some people have made to me have made me feel terrible. (put yourself before baby, it's time to wean, etc.).

I feel like the comments have pushed me into a worse place - that I'm a bad mom if I continue to nurse and don't start the medication (for anxiety), and I'm a bad mom if I nurse on the medication. I'm honestly afraid if I stop nursing just to take the medication, I'll forever have a bad memory associated with weaning and that won't help my anxiety - there was drama with the ILs surrounding LO's birth and I still occasionally feel sick over it, almost 1.5 years later.

I was told to call infant risk to ease my mind, I've read the websites about studies, but really was hoping to hear from other people who have taken medications while nursing that their LOs were okay.

I was told Lexapro was actually better than Prozac for anxiety, but my doctor said that there seemed to be less information on that with lactation than prozac/fluoxetine (I think from the screen he was reading). I haven't started the Prozac yet, wondering if Lexapro is safer?

I'm nursing and on Lexapro (Escitalopram). I went to see a perinatal pharmacologist (perks of living in Boston haha) when pregnant because I knew I was just not a candidate for going off anti-depressants because of pregnancy. (I tried with my first pregnancy, which ended in mc, and it was terrible - even aside from the loss.)

Anyway, that doctor, my midwives, and LO's ped have no issue with this, and I have noticed no ill effects. Only positive. i.e. I'm not losing my marbles.

Me! I've been on Prozac for about 8 years, and I EBF currently. According to my doctor, the small amount of medication that gets to baby is worth the huge benefits to me. Baby needs a healthy, stable mama.

I nursed while on a low dose of celexa and none of the doctors I spoke with (pediatrician, OB, psychiatrist) had any issues with it. Obviously not the same drug, but I believe they are very similar. Happy to answer any questions:)

ETA: I do however plan to try switching to Zoloft before we try for #2 because my doctors have said while they are okay with Celexa during pregnancy/nursing (and LO is totally fine), there is more research on Zoloft. Just a safety net in case I have severe PPD again and need to go on a high dose. (I stopped nursing when I had to increase the Celexa to a "high" dose, because I personally wasn't comfortable.)
