One of my besties just flew at 30 weeks. She got a note from her doctor, but no one ever asked to see it.

@Foodnerd81: Southwest gives pregs priority boarding! You just tell the gate attendant and you get to board in the first group! It was awesome:)

@lemondrop: Oh that's great to know about the early boarding! I was a bit worried about that-- I really want an aisle seat, especially since i pee every 20 minutes. I kind of thought you'd have to be a real jerk to make the pregnant lady sit in the middle anyway.

@Weagle: @edelweiss: I'm surprised they wouldn't let you go through the scanners. The last few times I flew I opted out and it was like they were trying to convince me to go through them. One airport they described the patdown in great detail and were like, are you SURE you want that? You know the scanner is safe, right?? I'm sure it is, but to me, the technology is too new and I don't want to take the risk, even if I get more radiation from actually flying! Whoever actually does the patdown is usually nice though.

Great-- I'm not going to bother trying to get a note. And I AM going to check in at the gate at Southwest in hopes of earlier boarding.

I flew at 30 and 31 weeks, the only issue I had was feeling really uncomfortable on my final flight home. I didn't bother to get a note. We flew Southwest, so I checked in with the gate agent and asked for early boarding- we got to board second after the first class/super mega gold membership people or whatever they are called.

@Foodnerd81: Nope. my doctor offered it on his own when I mentioned that we would be travelling, he said you never know and I carried the letter with me.

If I don't fancy the car journey and I still intend to go to a wedding in Germany at 32wks, I'll be flying there and then back at 33wks. It never occurred to me I might need a doctors/midwife note.

I'm flying when I'll be 35 weeks, and I brought this up to my OB. She said it's perfectly fine since I'm going to a populated place that can take care of me, if necessary. She also said I wouldn't need a note, but will provide one if I wanted one, just in case.

I just flew at 30 weeks. I asked my doctor if I needed a note, and he said no. Nobody gave me a hard time, in fact, everyone at security and the gate was very accommodating and nice! I flew Southwest. Have fun!

@Foodnerd81: I love that you posted this question today! I'm 32w and getting on a plane tomorrow! I asked my doctor and she said I shouldn't need one, but like you, I still worry someone is going to ask! From the responses though, looks like we are good!

I flew at 32 weeks (London to Toronto to NYC) on Air Canada. I had a note from my GP saying I was fit to fly and that I wasn't experiencing any signs of early labor, but I was never asked to show it. It wasn't required, but since we were moving back to the US I wanted to make sure we had all our ducks in a row.

i flew at 30 weeks and had no problems--no one asked. if you're really worried you could get the doctor's note just in case, but you probably won't need it especially if you're carrying small.

regarding scanners--i asked not to go through them and opted for a patdown instead, but then i read that the scanners give less radiation than what you get from actually being on a plane. sigh.

I didn't even think to take a note. No one asked me about it, they were all just super kind! Like @weagle, they wouldn't let me go through the scanners. :)

@looch: Did anyone ask to see it?

I just looked on their websites and Southwest lets you fly until 38 weeks (no thanks!) and Delta has no restrictions and just recommends checking with your doctor after the 8th month. So, I guess I should be fine.

Are you flying at 36 or 30 weeks?
If you're carrying small I think you should be okay.. I flew at 20 something months and I was pretty big. No one asked for documentation!

Did you ever get asked for a doctor's note when flying while visibly pregnant? I'm almost 30 weeks and flying this weekend. I'm not worried about the flights-- they are pretty short and I've been feeling good, but it just occurred to me, should I have gotten a note from my doctor? I'm carrying somewhat small, so I really don't think anyone would mistake me for 36 weeks plus (which is most airlines' cut off point), but does anyone have experience where they were asked for documentation?

Flying Southwest and Delta, if that matters.
