@Anagram: Yes, I'm parking at long-term parking, but the lot has designated spots where the bus stops. It involves about a few minutes walk to get to the bus. It does drop you off at curb side, so thankfully I won't have all of our stuff for too long.

@DenverMom: Where are you parking your car? At many long term parking lots (off airport), the lots are so huge that the bus comes around the parking lot to pick people up by their car. Can you find a lot like that and just load all the stuff onto the bus, then ask the bus to drop you at curbside check in?

I am planning on doing this in a few months. It's a short flight thankfully to NYC. Im planning on a single stroller for the 3 yo and then babywearing my then 10 month old. and One checked bag.

We will have carseats at the destination through a car service.

good luck!

@Rockies11: Oh my God, that sounds awful! I would hope if someone sees a mother doing that they would step in and help.

@Ree723: Good question about gate checking the double stroller! I don't know. Well, based on your and others' recommendation, I am going to test how the luggage and car seats can be stacked and bungeed to a fold up dolly. Then I can just fold the dolly and put it in the luggage before it's checked in. I will also probably end up taking an umbrella stroller instead of the double. My 3 year old really does not like to sit anymore, but if he throws a tantrum or acts out I want to be able to strap him into a stroller. Since I will have the carrier for the baby, if necessary, I will carry the baby and have the older one in the umbrella stroller.

Thanks ladies! I'm off to do some tetris style stacking of bags and car seats.

Could someone drop you at the airport so you can easily curbside check your bags? Other option for getting from car to ticketing would be to put both kids in stroller, put infant bucket seat (?? Or bungee a convertible) on the luggage and get a backpack-style bag for the other car seat so you can wear it. As long as you can one-hand push the stroller, you'd be good.

I've solo flown 4x with my two kids (2.5y apart) and done both double stroller OR wear the younger and have the older just walk. Totally depends on how good of a listener your older one is, how far you have to go in the airports, and if you need the double where you are going. It is super nice to be able to strap them both in. And we were fine gate checking it. Getting through security was a tight squeeze but ultimately fine!

Whenever I fly solo with both kids, I wear the younger one in the ergo, push the older one in the umbrella stroller, and don't take car seats. I last did it at 20 months and 3.5 years; it was still doable with this method.

I'm not sure who you're visiting, so maybe this isn't an option for you, but I've found it very worthwhile to have extra car seats and an extra umbrella stroller we leave at my parents' house so I never have to carry them on planes.

I also would always order things like duapers, wipes, baby food, etc. ahead to my destination to minimize luggage.

I did it with an Ergo, a backpack, an umbrella stroller, and one huge checked bag. My girls were 2.5 years and six months.
If there's anyway you could get cat seats at your destination I'd do that.
Through the terminal I wore the baby and backpack. My big girl was in the stroller and i pulled the luggage. Once I checked the bag I put the backpack on the stroller and let her walk. Did the same in reverse through customs and border control.

I flew solo with my 5 month old and 25 month old internationally, and then again when they were 23 months old and 3.5 yrs, also internationally, so I have a bit of experience with this! Our first trip was brilliant, our second was hell :bummed:

As to your plan - are you sure you can gate check the double stroller? I didn't think most airlines allowed a stroller of that size to be gate checked. I would think your 3 yr old could walk, which would make things a lot easier in terms of managing your stuff.

For getting from the car to the check in, I'd use a luggage trolley and bungee cord your stuff on there. Your plan of wearing your younger LO is a good one, but like I mentioned above, I'd ditch the double stroller and go with a small umbrella pram (unless you need your double at your destination, but even so, I'd check it).

Also, I'm sure you've thought of this, but just double check your airline's luggage allowance for infants and children to make sure there are no nasty surprises at the airport. Another option in lieu of the stroller is to buy a wheel base your car seat straps on to, which can then be used as a stroller in the airport, and you can then use your car seat for your 3 yr old on the plane. Just a thought - we did that and it was helpful as we wanted to check our bigger stroller but still needed an option for pushing/pulling our LO around the airport.

@DenverMom: I did it recently with a 6 month old and a 2.5 year old. The hardest part was the luggage/car seat/kids issue, and I had ended up pulling the suitcase 10 feet, pushing the stroller 10 feet, switch, repeat, lol. It was tough to manage everything, but it was doable!

I am flying by myself next month with the two kids (3 years old and 9 months old). For those who have done this, what are your suggestions?

I am planning on using our double stroller, so I think getting through the airport should not be a huge deal. I will then gate check the stroller. The most difficult part will be getting from the car to the check in. I will have two kids, the stroller, two car seats, and luggage - and ONE me! The plan is to bungee cord the car seats to the double stroller and use my ring sling to carry the baby. I can then push the stroller and pull the luggage. The 3 year old will walk. Once at check-in I can then check the luggage and car seats.

Does this sound doable, or am I crazy?
