I did this just over a year ago although I was only 26 weeks or so....Lollipops- bring several...and if you can, call the airline and ask for assistance- they brought a wheelchair; I didn't use it because I could walk but at least the guy carried all my stuff so that was a help!

@78h2o: I'm flying stand by so I'll be the last to board. Bummer but a perk to flying free. Usually stand bys are the last row of the plane. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

@matador84: hmm, you have an assigned seat then, right? I've found it helpful to sit by other families - their kids can entertain yours and the other parents can be sympathetic/helpful. I usually fly Southwest solo with LO and look for someone nice to sit next to during family boarding. I guess that won't work if you have an assigned seat, but maybe you'll luck out.

I've found flying with a baby people are generally helpful and will offer to help. If they don't then ask!

When I've flown they've had clear plastic bags when we've checked in to put the car seat in. I'd just let them do it, save you the hassle.

Okay, I have spent the last two hours around the house in a frenzy! I wasn't able to get a cool toddler travel thing like most of you suggested, but I am for future trips! I might get one while I am in the big city and use it on the way back in fact.

I'm going to carry DS, put the carseat in the frame stroller (if it fits) until we can check it.

I don't have a bag for the carseat, if I wrap it in trash bags will that work??

We have the Brica Car seat transporter, it's like a hand cart for car seats, it works great, your kid can sit in the seat.

Baggage claim the car seat and maybe purchase this for the airplane ride. I have one and use it every time we fly. It's pretty easy to put on. Or if you're visiting family maybe see if they can borrow one. Bringing the car seat on the plane is a lot of work (and heavy!), especially when you're travelling alone, pregnant, and with a toddler that young. Otherwise, since it's a short flight just bring some of your LO's favorite smaller toys or books and snacks and you should be good. And don't hesitate to ask people around you for help putting things in the overhead bin or helping you with the stroller when you gate check it. You'd be surprised at how many people will offer to help you. I flew multiple times with my two kids alone half way around the world and people have been really nice. Or they just felt bad for me that I was flying alone with two kids, lots of carry on bags, and a double stroller! Good luck and take it easy.

@chopsuey: Do you know if they let you rent one without renting a car?! HA HA, probably not! I might be able to convince my mom to buy one since I have another one on the way...she'll probably need it eventually!

Seriously, I can barely rock the kid my gut is so big. Thanks for the luck, I will need it!

@chopsuey: I'm so nervous! I'll bring the iPad, and we are flying around 630 so maybe he'll fall asleep. And he's a lap child and I'm huge!

Where could I find somewhere to rent a car seat? I don't even know where to look. I think I can totally handle it if I don't have to lug that thing around.

@mrs. bird: I'll look into that! It's cheap too! (you are the deals woman!) I don't have time to buy online since we leave Friday, but maybe BRU will have it.

@matador84: Do you have to take the car seat? Can you have someone at your destination borrow one? Or if you're getting a rental, rent one?

If not. Omg. Definitely take an umbrella stroller or something to put him in. Snacks. Layer clothes. Ipad, coloring book and crayons,.. something to distract on the plane. Ask for help from people!

I traveled with DD when I was 20 weeks pregnant and she was 18 months old. Had my parents get a car seat and I brought my umbrella stroller.

I know there are tons of tips on other threads, but there is always good advice to be had!

I'm 34 weeks pregnant and flying on Friday with my 16 month old. I have never taken him on a plane before! His car seat (britax marathon) is so heavy I don't know how I'm even going to carry it from my car in the parking lot to the skycap.

I have to bring his frame stroller too because obviously I can't carry him and the carseat. I would wear him but my bump is huge.

What other tips? Our flight is super short, about an hour and on a tiny plane--3 seats across and about 32 rows.
