If you want to use headphones, start practicing now. We've gotten some but never used them since he rips them off (tiger kid's headphones on Amazon) he is fine with watching my iPod without them, plus I can lock it so it doesn't matter if he pushes the buttons.

We bought these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0095XPHQU/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 for DD (3yo) when we went on vacation about a month ago. They were great.

I never had nanny LO use head phones. They would have never kept them in anyway. I figured since their attention span was so short the fellow passengers would rather listen (always on low) to 10 mins of a game or show than screaming.

We don't use headphones either, we just let our son watch on the iPad and so far, we have not had an issue.

We do a 6 hour flight at least twice a year and we don't do anything to prepare for the time difference. We do have a 4 day adjustment period each way, so if you have some help watching your kid while you can sleep, take it!!!!!

Wow @MamaBehr, you are brave! Great suggestions, thanks so much. I bet you are right that my DD probably wouldn't care if the sound is off either, she hasn't watched too much TV yet so I didn't even think of that!

I have flown with mine a bunch of times and never used headphones. DD never seemed to mind that she couldn't hear what she was watching! She is 3 now and finally started to tolerate headphones. When we fly it is only a one hour time change, so I actually try to keep them on a TX schedule (that's where we live), and not mess with a time change schedule.

When I fly in Sept (by myself, with a 19 month old, 3 year old, and 22 weeks pregnant, WHAT WAS I THINKING?!?!) I'm going to bring our iPad with apps, DVD player, and small manipulatives (playdough, coloring books/crayons, stickers/paper and something else that I'm not sure yet hahaha) I don't have a direct flight, we are doing Houston to Chicago, Chicago to Buffalo, NY which is about 4 hours in air as well. Just make sure you are over-prepared! hahaha

We are taking our first flight with our LO in November, when she will be 14 months old. We're flying Boston to Denver non stop, which is about a 4 hour flight. We are still deciding if we should buy her a seat or not.

Does anyone have recommendations for headphones a toddler could wear / not hate wearing? We just realized our main distraction is our Kindle and the other passengers probably won't love listening to Daniel Tiger for 4 hours!

Also, any tips on how to deal with the time change? It's only 2 hours and we'll only be there 4 or 5 days, so I'm hoping this won't be a big deal.
