@rattles: that's a good point. Continental let me take the seat on a red-eye flight that had lots of empty seats (for no extra charge) and that made life much easier, especially traveling alone.

On the SW flight, I did give the people next to me the free drink coupons I got with my SW credit card.

People in general were super helpful, offering to fold my stoller, hold things, etc.

@swurlygurl: I didn't include this since the OP was planning to bring a stroller, but I didn't bother either time. I was traveling by myself with DD and tried to minimize stuff. I wore her in front, wore her diaper bag like a backpack in back and rolled her carseat/base in a travel bag behind me. It wasn't nearly as bad as I'd feared!

Oh! I also brought earplugs and chocolates for our neighbors. A preemptive bribe never hurts for building goodwill.

I don't know what airline you're flying, but when I flew Southwest, they'd let me know at the gate whether there were empty seats on the flight. If so, you can bring your LO's carseat on board with you for her to use in her own seat. I flew with my DD at 4.5 and 5.5 months, and it was great to have somewhere to set her down when that worked out. If you wear LO in your Ergo and she's asleep at take off or landing, you can just hold her close and slip the straps off of your shoulders so as not to disturb. Also, consider throwing an extra set of clothes (or at least a shirt) for yourself as well. All I'll say is poopsplosion plus lap child isn't pretty...

@looch: @78h2o: Thank you! I hadn't even thought about having to take the wheels off the stroller. I have City Mini GT, but the car seat adapter is still on it, so it's pretty big. Hadn't thought of the garbage bag idea either. Lots of toys....

@BlueWolverine: I'm sure you'll be fine! It is stressful though! I flew across country with my LO when she was 2 mo and then again when she was 5 mo. She did well both times. The carrier was helpful when going through security, but they didn't let me wear it on the plane during take off and landing (why, I have no idea - apparently it was Southwest's policy).

I do think a paci will work for LOs ears instead of nursing. My LO didn't seem very bothered by pressure changes, but I did either nurse or get her to suck on a paci (she doesn't ever take one, but she will suck/swallow a few times).

There's a good amount of white noise on the plane, so that definitely helps. You could also download sleep sounds onto your phone to play (if you have a smart phone) if you need LO to sleep in the airport.

I'd pack a garbage bag with her change of clothes in case she spits up or has a blow out. That always happens at the most inconvienent times! :)

Alll the planes I've been on have had a changing table in the restroom that folds down over the toilet.

What kind of stroller do you have? My Britax B-agile and B-safe went through the x-ray belt just fine at 3 different airports. I didn't bring the base but I imagine that would be fine.

The only thing I can suggest is to bring a lot of things to occupy your LO. My daughter did not sleep on the last two flights she took... she was happy the whole time, but I had to constantly entertain her. I found that random things occupied her better than the actual baby toys I'd brought - curly multicolored ribbon (from a present), plastic cups from drink service, plastic spoon, bag of unopened snack, etc. I would try to bring as many small toys as possible so that you can change it up!

Have fun!

First time I flew with my son he was 6 months old, flight was 6 hours, but we were travelling the entire day, if you include time to the airport and back.

I didn't know I could request the stroller to be hand checked so I didn't have to take the wheels off to get it on the belt. So, ask for this, and you might not even have to take LO out of the seat! Just make sure you have NOTHING in the basket underneath or in any pockets in the stroller.

DH, LO and I flying to my home state tomorrow morning. We have an early flight and are hoping LO will sleep/be happy-ish. We're gate checking the stroller and car seat and checking the base. I'm taking the Ergo to carry her on the plane and purchased a travel boppy on the advice of a friend. I plan on nursing during take off and landing (do pacis work for this as well?). Is there anything I'm not thinking about?

Thanks, bees!
