I flew with my son when he was about this age. They do make you take the baby out of the carrier during takeoff and landing which I thought was completely stupid. What is safer for the baby, to be strapped to me or to be a projectile in case of a crash?! Geez. But he fell asleep in his carrier and then I gently just unbuckled it and pulled it back, leaving the waist part still wrapped around me. So I didn't really wake up and then he just slept on me the whole time. If she is a good sleeper in the carrier then I would try that but they will make you undo the whole thing to go through security, so you'll put the carrier in one of the bins and then walk through with her in your arms. I would say that your plan to have her in the carrier and then one small carryon is a great one - I've found the key is to take as little as possible to carry. You are already short on hands, taking a bunch of stuff just makes it worse. Also make sure you have plenty of time- nothing is worse than panicked rushing through the airport with a little one, you are sure to leave something somewhere. And def look for a family line in security - my airport actually opens a brand new line for people with really tiny ones. And then when he was awake I tried to give him a small bottle at takeoff and landing - I took those little 2 oz disposable bottles of formula since he wasn't nursing by then. Helps pop their ears. Hmmm... think that is all I have!

@zippylef: why was it easier flying at bedtime? I'd imagine for your international flight the baby was easier ot deal with bc they slept during the flight.
But I would only be flying for an hour so I worry by the time she settles enough to sleep it'll be time to get off the flight. Hopefully maybe I can just keep her in the carrier the whole time and she can sleep till we get into the car but doubtful since she's a light sleeper.

So interested in the answers! We are flying with O in May, she will be about 8 months. We are flying out (2.5h flight) at noon and flying home at 7p, so I can't answer yet..but I'm also nervous about flying during bedtime!

Get a window seat because you'll have more room and fly at bedtime. When we flew to the US, we flew midday and it was a mess. When we flew back to London, we did it at bedtime and it was SO much better.

I'm thinking about flying home for a quick weekend trip with M.

Just wanted some input from other parents that have flown with similar aged babies.

Ideally I will fly home after work on Friday evening then fly back Sunday evening. But M's bedtime is typically around 6:30/7:00pm. She's not terrible if she misses bedtime if she had good naps during the day. But she hardly naps at daycare and with being home things will be too exciting I doubt she'll nap much there.

SO if you've flown with a 10 month old was it terrible flying at bedtime or should I try to take a half day Friday and plan to get to my brother's before bedtime. And perhaps take Monday off and fly back Monday afternoon. I'd rather not do the latter bc I'm at a temp to perm job and already took a sick day bc of M and took a day off planning to go home but got cancelled bc of Nemo.

Also would you reco getting a aisle seat or window seat? It's only an hour flight. And it'll just be baby & I.

I plan to carry her in a carrier and bring just 1 "small" carry on.

Any other tips? Thanks!
