30+ flights with my 22 month old, a handful of them solo. The hardest was when I was 17 weeks pregnant and she was about 16 months old on a 15 hr flight, alone with her, then had a looong layover before another 2 hr flight. We did some multi flight itineraries when she was really small which were actually much easier.

I'm dreading flying internationally with a two year old and newborn this summer - hopefully I won't have to do it alone!

yes... and I'm not going to lie... it was AWFUL. She was tired but couldn't sleep - she didn't want to sit still and screamed most of the flight. If she wasn't screaming, she wanted to run up and down the aisles, bugging everyone. Yeah, I was *that* parent.

ETA: DH and I have flown with him together before though.

We fly back to the east coast about twice a year. I flew alone with them once last year when they were almost 4 and 2. It was a redeye flight too so I was really scared. But they behaved a lot better than I imagined. My younger one was upset that she didn't get a seat but settled down with some talking and even fell asleep for half the flight. My son is really easy to travel with now. We just chatted through the whole flight. I usually get a bunch of stuff from the dollar store for each trip to keep them busy.

We've flown tons with LO; she'll have taken close to 20 flights by the time she turns 2; on fact we just flew with her today!! LO is an excellent flier, which I think is mostly luck and part parental stress level and trip organization.

I'm bummed to have to start paying for an additional ticket after June!

We flew at 5 months. Honestly, I really didn't enjoy it and didn't think it (our "vacation") was worth it at all, I won't be flying again aaaaanytime soon unless it's a necessity.

That being said, it went ok... She never really melted down or anything and was young enough that I could entertain her on my lap, but again, the stress, experience, hassle just wasn't worth it. :/

We flew from Washing to Alabama with connections in Texas at 8 months and again at 16 months. Both times were super easy but it was just her and both me and DH. At that age she was super interested in looking around the plane, snacks and playing with plastic cups or water bottle. She loved eating ice and just generally snacking

My tips - get a large pill container (like pills for days of the week but they ones for several weeks) and put all kinds of snacks in there. Like a few Cheerios, puffs, dried fruit, small crackers, etc. they have fun opening and closing the containers and finding the various snacks

-have several ziplocks with different toys - small toys that light up (no sound), stickers, small figures, crayons, etc. so you can pull out a ziploc and play then pack it up and pull out another one. Avoids too much chaos and keeps things kind of organized

-lots of snacks - can't emphasize enough

-we brought several lift the flap books

-she liked random things like playing with a travel sized thing of tissue and opening and closing and pulling out a tissue

@Sammyfab: Yep, it was something! I don't think I've ever been so tired in all my life. Both ways were absolutely exhausting and just awful. Our son was a trooper, though! He made the best of it and we (husband and I) just survived. Once we got to India we were good (minus the jetlag) And once we got home here, I practically collapsed and that lasted for days. :)

I think the most difficult time is between 1-2 years old...they're mobile and you can't really reason with them. Flying with my 3 year old isn't that bad anymore, we have a lot less gear and he can be reasoned with, so he follows directions.

We flew to India (almost 30 hours there and 32 hours back-3 flights) last November when our son was 14 months. It was rough! But that's because it was so, so long and he didn't get sleep and then the insane jetlag. I try to block out the memories of those two long trips to and from because it was just that bad. Haven't flown with him otherwise. I think shorter trips would be a breeze in comparison when we take a shorter flight in the future.

@autumnlove: He just turned 2 at the end of February. Our last flight was a week ago so he had his own seat...which was way better! Having him as a lap infant wasn't too bad but he always wanted to climb up and down and switch between me and my husband. Thankfully he's not the type of kid who needs to run off energy up and down the aisles!

The iPad and a Cars book with stickers were the best distractions. I also brought tons of snacks and a colouring books with markers. The hardest part was convincing him to turn off the iPad for landing. Seatbelts were tricky at times but I would always point to the light and remind him that when the seatbelt light is on he needed to stay clipped in and he listened pretty well.

It's not too bad as they get older... the very worst was when my DD was having night terrors and she had them on international flights too. But now they are both really good and the biggest thing we deal with is fighting over toys on the plane and ear pain. Flying solo is not too bad if you are organized!

I flew with C at 8, 9, and 24 months. All three times were between the US and UK.

8 and 9 months was pretty easy. Catch a red eye and they'll sleep right through. 24 months was a challenge with her being older and more mobile and not wanting to sit still or nap. It could have been much worse though. The main struggle was keeping her from kicking the seats in front of us.
