Depends on the length of the flight. Having just done a long flight during naptime with a very active 16 month old, I can see how a carseat would have come in handy. It would have allowed me to sleep soundly when she slept, knowing she was secure in her seat (and couldn't wriggle free/start charging the aisles. I agree with the others that dragging a seat to and from the airport, especially alone, will be a huge pain, but it could be worth it if you think it will help your child understand that there are certain times on the plane they will need to be seated to be safe, or will help them to do some quiet playing in their seat instead of wanting to explore every minute of the flight.

I have to take a 15 hr flight with my LO alone next week. I am feeling REALLY tempted to bring the carseat, but I'd most likely need to buy her a second seat to be allowed to use it, so I'm reluctant....

We've flown twice with Wagon Jr. in his own seat. The first time, I borrowed a seatbelt harness and he was miserable. Kept scooching down further and further until the chest clip was cutting into his neck and he started crying. I tried to get him to sit up but he refused. Finally I just took it off and he was slip-sliding all over the place for the rest of the ride and the ride home.

The second time I carried our carseat onto the plane and strapped him into it. He sat and watched his TV happily the entire flight, not a peep out of him. He's used to the carseat and long car rides, so staying strapped in is what he's used to.

Our LO understands the carseat. Meaning he will sit in it and not be squirmy. No carseat in my mind would make it harder for me to control him. That said, I always fly with my SO, so he can put in the seat while I manage LO. If you go no carseat, I would definitely do the CARES harness for safety purposes.

How long is the flight? I wouldn't unless you are are doing an overnight flight. Also, since your parents will already have a car seat, there is no real need to bring yours.

Thanks for the feedback!

We are flying to see my parents and they have borrowed a convertible seat to use while we are there.

Not lugging one seems a lot easier and I think LO will like the space. I an just curious about what others have done. This will be the first time she flies with her own seat as we did lap baby until now.

I always check my carseats, I never put them on the plane. We were once on a plane with another baby that was DS's age and he was in a seat, DS was not, and he screamed the WHOLE time, whereas DS was content to move about.

I used to fly twice a month with the little baby I watch and we never once used one. She would have never sat in it anyway. If you are able to have a car seat at your destination then I would skip it. Or I guess you could gate check a car seat (we did that once when we were in a bind). It was just easier for the baby to play in the seat or even walk around our seat area. Plus without the car seat she was able to completely lay down and nap. That was always nice. If you have any more questions feel free to ask them. I'm very familiar flying with a baby ; )

ETA- you could always look into the cares system, too.

If she is two, you are getting her her own seat anyway, right? Would you rent a seat when you arrive otherwise or check it?

Never flown with a Lo anyway so no advice!

Yes for a red eye, no otherwise. DD never sleeps in my arms anymore and does so much better in her car seat
