@blackbird: we never had any trouble flying with baby food/pouches. I usually just bring what I need on the plane though and either put the rest in the checked bag or stock up at our destination for the return trip.

I haven't had any problems in the uS, they just had to do a manual pat down search on my husband. I did have a problem in Seoul but they just gave me a warning. Never had to throw any away.

I had no problems. The first time I was mostly nursing so there's ones (I think Ella's kitchen) that are under 3 oz, so I just put a couple of those in with the rest of my liquids, and didn't even say anything about them.

The second time she was 10 months, so I brought 3 normal size pouches, and showed them to the agent and they just took it and looked at it. No big deal.

Okay good! Sounds like the problems are very rare! Good! I'll just try to be extra nice so they're not like, "let's take that bitch's pouches! muah ha ha". I'll print out the guidelines and take them with me, at the very least, though. Knowing my luck, I'd get the brand new 18 year old who doesn't know the rules! Or feels like flexing them

In my experience, the tsa has never minded things over 3 oz that were obviously baby things-pouches, sippy cups, apple sauce cups, toiletries, etc. When we have a sippy, they test it, but it just takes a second.

Omg I packed about 30 pouches when we flew to the bahamas and stuck them in a carry on. Haha. We got flagged and they searched the bag, but let us through! :P

I always bag it separately and hand it to the TSA agents and tell them it is food for baby. I usually have to get my hands swabbed but that is the only extra screening they put me through. I've never been asked to open the packages, though once someone remarked "oh good, they are less than 3oz" (which is incorrect -- according to the website they can be any size).

http://www.tsa.gov/traveler-information/traveling-children

Medically required liquids, such as baby formula and food, breast milk and medications are allowed in excess of 3.4 ounces in reasonable quantities for the flight. It is not necessary to place medically required liquids in a zip-top bag. However, you must tell the Transportation Security Officer that you have medically necessary liquids at the beginning of the screening checkpoint process. Medically required liquids will be subjected to additional screening that could include being asked to open the container. We recommend, but do not require, that medication be labeled to facilitate the security process.

Passengers going on long trips should only carry on the medically necessary liquids and gels needed for their infant/toddler’s immediate comfort during the flight. Please pack larger amounts of liquids for the remainder of the trip in a checked bag.

@blackbird: We just flew over 4th of July weekend. We probably had 20 pouches in a ziploc bag. Just took it out and put it in the bin to go through the scanner. No problems whatsoever!

I was forced to open pouches once. This was when I made the mistake of declaring it / taking it out which drew their attention. They were pretty mean and said I needed to bring pouches less than 3 oz if I didn't want them opened.

So now I always leave everything in my carry on and over many flights I've never once been asked about them  similar to how my husband never ever takes his toiletries out and never gets asked ...

I have only flown 2 times with L, both times I brought pouches and I had to put them outside of the bag to go through the machine things, but otherwise it was totally fine! As for messes while eating, I just tried to keep a napkin close and under his chin.

We've flown with pouches and they never hassled us or screened them. I did have TSA tell me once I needed to open up bottles of liquid premade formula. I told him hellz nah and that he could run it through the liquids/bomb machine. Once I told him opening it would spoil it, he seemed to "get it" and was fine with just scanning it.

I had no issues traveling with pouches either! I took pouches to Cuba, California and within Canada. Umm, and i would be so annoyed if i had to open up the pouches at security! If the seals aren't broken, why would they do that??

I flew with the pouches many times and only had a problem once where I was forced to throw mine away at security :( So generally, it's usually fine, but just know you can get a jerk TSA agent every now and then.

Has anybody had any problems traveling with baby food pouches? To keep the mess to a minimum, I was thinking about bringing applesauce, those Ella's Kitchen pouches, and some other snacks for E. The TSA website is vague, saying they are allowed but could be subject to extra screening. Then, of course, I found a bunch of horror stories where moms were forced into opening the food up, where it could spoil on the long trip.

So. Anybody have problems? I'm also going to bring some muffins and regular snack food, but applesauce is like crack!

I'm only going to bring enough for the flight on the plane, then pack the rest. Nothing says suspicious like 10 days worth of food for a 3 hour flight, heh.
