@LemonJack: give her Tylenol or motrin about an hour before the flight.

I flew solo NYC-ATL with both my girls when dd2 was 6 months old. She slept badly the night before the flight, but didn't have a fever or anything, so I assumed she was teething. As we were putting her into her carseat, I noticed GREEN GUNK coming out one ear. I knew then she had an ear infection, but I didn't know what to do--cancel our whole flight? Lose the $$ for 2 nonrefundable flights (mine and DD1's tickets) ? I kind of panicked, but ultimately decided to do the flight anyway.

We stopped at a pharmacy and I bought children's motrin and dosed her. The flight wasn't great, but we survived. We landed, and my mom picked us up and we went straight to a minor emergency, and she had a double ear infection. I think we only survived the flight, because her eardrum burst (which relieves pressure) and because of the meds. You may as well give it to be on the safe side.

@erinbaderin: I’m bringing some along, so I’ll give her those if she won’t nurse.
@MrsBucky: I didn’t know that trick to help ears pop. I’ll try that!

Saline spray to try to loosen the junk? If her ears hurt, rub below/behind her ears in the little crook there to try to help them pop. See if she will copy you opening your mouth super wide and wiggling her chin.

Maybe some kind of treat, like puffs - something to keep her swallowing if she doesn’t want to nurse.

When we flew recently my daughter was a big fan of sucking on my finger turned upside down, so my nail was on her tongue instead of breastfeeding or taking a pacifier. Something weird like this might work.

We’re flying tomorrow and the baby (10 months) is congested. Great. Any tips or tricks to make the flight go easier? I’m afraid it’ll hurt her ears even more than it would have otherwise. I can nurse her, but if she’s not willing to nurse I’m not sure what to do! I’ll bring a pacifier, but she’s never used one so I doubt she’ll take it for the flight. Any other suggestions???
